selectism - to please any taste

A distinguished man should know a good deal about art, culture, food, looking good and how to woo a lady. Part of this refinement comes in understanding the past, and not just aesthetically, but also socially, economically and the rest. Furniture study allows fora good cross section of these things. Tools, woods, design and the odd family story allintertwine to create the stories that drive academic interest in furniture (antique and contemporary).

To Please Any Taste: Litchfield County Furniture and Furniture Makers, 1780 to 1830,  covers the rich tradition of the regions furniture over the 50 year period. Essays from Yale’s Edward S. Cooke and Northeast Auctions Americana Specialist Derin Bray are both informative and accessible. The book coincides with the exhibit of same name at the Litchfield County Historical Society.
