Isamu Noguchi sought to make sculpture useful. His furniture designs play into this mission. They rely on biomorphic imagery, and build a sense of cohesion with his other art work. Noguchi worked on furniture primarily during the 1940s, living the United States in the early 50s to go to Japan.

Noguchi’s rocking stool was originally produced by Vitra, and is now returning to production. Designed in 1954 the stool allows a full range of movement from side to side, and the seat provides a protective lip so you don’t slip off. (Thanks to Retro to go).
