  selectism - dargerism

A few months ago we had the opportunity to talk with Andy Howell. Apart from touching on his simply amazing career, we discussed some of the artists that have inspired him. One was Henry Darger.

Self-Taught, Darger is one of the most influential outsider artists for the trained. His work encompasses drawings, water colors and sculpture. The American Folk Art Museum holds the largest repository of Darger’s work. Combining this collection with the ideas spawned by Darger and manifested by contemporary artists, the museum has on view Dargerism: Contemporary Artists and Henry Darger. Eleven artists are featured. They work to tell the story of how Darger came to influence artistic discourse and spawn a totally new "ism."

Catch the show in NY until August.
