Racked is reporting that fresh off stints in Tokyo and Hong Kong, Chanel’s UFO-like mobile art pavilion is making a stop in Central Park before being transported over to London, Moscow and Paris. The preconstructed Zaha Hadid-designed orb is being pieced together now in Rumsey Field in anticipation of an October 20th opening. Like the Gates, the Chanel exhibit is free and open to the public, though there’s definitely a commercial bent: The structure will contain work by 20 contemporary artists "inspired by the legendary quilted [Chanel] bag." If the shots of the pavilion’s shell aren’t exciting enough, there’s a dizzying video tour of the completed project online.
