50 years ago Arne Jacobsen’s Swan Chair hit the market. This month, Fritz Hansen has reintroduced the design in a special anniversary make-up. The upholstery is white semi-aniline leather. Each chair is numbered, out of 1,958, and sits on a pearl white base.
The chair was first designed for use in the lobby at the Royal Hotel in Copenhagen. At core, it is an achievement of modern material, its curvilinear shape made possible by molded plastic. Like much of mid-century design, it’s initial use in public space doesn’t limit its potential in the private home.
