Actors appearing in ad campaigns isn’t anything new, but it’s a little more surprising when the actor is a little known star who’s only appeared in one highly acclaimed film. Josep Abril’s Spring/Summer collection for 2009 is filled with cremes, greens/turquoises, and more hues brought upon by what FW calls “malachite, scientifically known as copper carbonate and it comes naturally in different shades of green, from bright to blackish…Used as a gemstone or ornamental stone, malachite is said to have healing powers from driving away nightmares and bad dreams to improving ones moods, even bringing luck and good fortune to the wearer.”

GQ has announced the finalist for “Best New Menswear Designers in America” in conjunction with the CFDA. The six finalist selected by GQ are Benjamin Bixby, Robert Geller, Rogues Gallery, Save Khaki, Shipley & Halmoss, and Yigal Azrouël. All the finalist are features in the February 2009 issue of GQ. “A panel of industry experts, including GQ editor-in-chief Jim Nelson, American menswear designer Thom Browne, and CFDA executive director Steven Kolb, will determine the winner.”

For fifty years Yves Saint Laurent and his partner Pierre Berge actively collected art, amassing a collection of some 700 works over the period. Included are paintings by Picasso, Goya and Mondrian. Housed in the pairs Paris’ apartment, the collection has been kept relatively private, the Laurent truly living with his art. Christies will be auctioning the estate this year, and Wallpaper* has published a “preview” of the expected lots. This is far less a preview than a view into Laurent’s living space. And, ultimately, the joy of the images comes in that.

Before we give you a look at the Louis Vuitton Spring 2009 Sneakers, we have to say this – we never liked the footwear from the French brand. The main reason was, that branding was always too heavy, too colorful and disturbing at times. Quality was of course never an issue, but who wants to wear a sneaker that can be identified from miles away as a Louis Vuitton sneaker? We do not.

That said, the new Spring 2009 collection is much more subtle. You still find the LV monogram here and there, but in most cases it is embossed and tonal. This season Louis Vuitton got heavily inspired by the classic Vans Sk8 Hi and Sk8 Lo it seems. Their premium versions of the sneaker came out clean and are easy to wear.
