Ogreen Featherweight Glasses

Based in Copenhagen, Denmark, Ogreen produced eyewear of a featherweight class. Their newest series, named Helium, come in at roughly half an ounce. That’s a refreshing change from some of the heavy hipster frames that have been floating out there the last six months or so. Above is the Cougar model, which comes in seven different color schemes. Belgian designer, Dries Van Noten, brings his ready to wear looks  to market with this Spring/Summer 2009 collection. Suits and longcoats are the standouts in the collection which also offers a variety of tailored slacks cut from fabrics normally used in the construction of neckwear. The collection falls towards the proper rather than the casual, but hell, we all need to look good.

Peter Traag’s Sponge Chair

Growing up, a baseball glove chair was the ultimate dream. In retrospect, the desire for a comfortable brown leather arm chair would have been more appropriate, and simply a little more refined. Peter Traag’s Sponge Chair (designed in 2004) does an odd job of combining the two feelings – refinement and exuberance. His work drapes an over-sized upholstery over a polyurethane foam injection, creating folds that are influenced by a sea sponge. In the brown leather above this works a charm. With the silver model after the jump, the jury is still out. You can get both versions of the Sponge chair from MOSS.

Duckie Brown Spring/Summer 2009

Duckie Brown’s Spring 2009 collection is as Mr. Blanks on men.style expresses, “Underpinning Duckie’s entire Spring collection were stretchy tops, bottoms, hoods, and little glovelets. The eccentricity of such a second-skin notion was compounded by a wide silhouette—echoes of David Byrne’s Big Suit. Boxily cut jackets were matched with trousers that were cut on the circle, or shorts that fell to below the knee.”

Jean Nouvel’s Aquatic Center

Growing up as a competitive swimmer, I entered my fair share of long in the tooth pools and aquatic centers. Something like Les Bains des Docks by Jean Nouvel would have certainly shaved seconds off my time. Nouvel’s design for an aquatic center is part of the Port 2000 development in Le Havre, France. The center itself consists of a staggering 12 pools and all the other stuff you’d want for a fun day in the water. Dezeen has a write up from Nouvel himself on the space.
