The Goodhood and R. Newbold collaborative effort has been granted something Alan Partridge never got, “A second series.” Previews of the new tags have been leaked. It’s hard to complain about a project with a clear agenda. Full looks of the second set from Goodhood and R. Newbold soon.

Selectism columnist Kyle Hackett posted a couple of pieces of the Woolrich Woolen Mills collection recently and while we do agree with his choices, we’d have to add this chambray pen jacket to our list of desirables. It has the looks of a perfect spring/summer jacket – it’s lightweight, soft, comfortable and you can roll the sleeves up, an essential need for all long sleeved items in summer. Alexander McQueen’s SS09 collection is one of his strongest in recent years and these contrast sole shoes are more proof of that. The shoes maintains an ever-so-slightly distressed look, which looks worn in – but not so much you wonder why you’re paying full price for them. The contrast sole is sure to be one of the key looks this spring, so McQueens added a red heel, so the wearer can retain some originality. Get them from Oki-Ni.

The fine folks at Men’s Rag have put us on to this relatively new label, Sistere. The Japanese brand are the latest in a long, long line of desirable brands that are difficult to get your hands on. The SS09 collection is called ‘The Basic’ and calls to mind Rick Owens mixed with Forme D’Expression. Take a look at the collection after the jump.

A charcoal color is done right with this S2VS Double Faced Military Shirt. The shirt works well as shown with black denim but I’m sure blue will do as well. Note the antique finish brass buttons and the geometric flap closures on the pockets. Great deals. Available now from OAK.

R29 may be onto something. “We’ve caught onto a bold new trend that sure to make things a little brighter. Wear your mood on your shoes and shake things up with an unexpected pair of blue-hued shoes. Not exactly the first thing you’d think of when it comes to men’s dress shoes, until we came across these.” These blues from Kitsuné for Pierre Hardy, part of the fifth series of the on going collaboration, feature opposing red and white laces on the blue finish – must be a French thing. The awards are out and listed at Wallpaper*. Despite the dubious addition of one Mr. Kanye West to the vetting team, some interesting buildings and objects fill the championed categories. Patrick Norguet, work seen above, was named Furniture Designer of the Year. His work for Parisian shop Silvera drawing acclaim for his innovative combination of materials. View the entire list here.

I was recently in a position to put my current pair of denim on the shelf for the winter. Unfortunately, as amazing as they broke in after a good six month run in them, they simply were not warm enough to hold me over for what feels like the Tundra up here in New England. On top of that, they needed some repairs as well. 

So I decided to stray from my usual options and looked for new denim that was not only heavier in weight but was also promoted as being “indestructible.” I mean, come on, nothing is indestructible. But Self Edge in SF promised that they had what I needed in the Iron Heart 634S – a 21oz. heavy weight straight fit selvedge denim from Japan that is made for motorcycle riders. By their nature, the denim is both warm and unexpectedly soft. This is unlike most raw selvedge. The soft finish comes from the  Zimbabwe Cotton used to construct the Iron Hearts as well as the looming technique. I also love the ridiculously thick leather patch.

At the end of the day, they’re incredibly warm which is really what I needed. The Iron Hearts did not come cheap, but they have paid themselves forward. My thermometer is now set few notches down. That’s savings, my friends.

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc. and Columbia Pictures have teamed with Thomas Pink on a small collection of clothing and accessories to coincide with the release of The Pink Panther 2 in February 2009. For men, the collection offers, Pink Panther cufflinks,  socks, and a great striped pink and black striped tie with the Pink Panther himself on the tip reveal.
