campbell met director front Tom Cambell | The METs New Director

Yesterday’s Telegraph ran a quality profile of Philippe de Montebello’s successor at the MET. Hired from in house, Tom Cambell knows a few things about the institution, but is still in for quite the challenge. Simply put, the job is the biggest there is in the museum world. A good read for a cold Saturday.

THOF reports in with preview looks at the coming Spring/Summer 2009 Raf Simons for Fred Perry Collection. Leaving behind the “all black” color range found in the previous seasons wears, SS09 takes hints of inspiration from the “West African culture which can be seen in the natural fabrics and vibrant colour palette of copper brown, earth orange, regal blue and honey hues worked in multi coloured striping.”

The collection of 25 pieces includes the expected Perry polos and knits but also includes a variety of new goods including a Harrington slim fit jacket and slip-on loafers.

More preview looks from the Raf Simons for Fred Perry Spring/Summer 2009 Collection after the jump.

Video | Objectified – A Documentary Film by Gary Hustwit

09 January 2009, 20.52 | Posted in Design | No comments »

Objectified is a feature-length independent documentary about industrial design. It’s a look at the creativity at work behind everything from toothbrushes to tech gadgets. It’s about the people who re-examine, re-evaluate and re-invent our manufactured environment on a daily basis. It’s about personal expression, identity, consumerism, and sustainability. It’s about our relationship to mass-produced objects and, by extension, the people who design them.”

Located in New Bremen, Ohio, The Bicycle Museum of America has recently received some great additions to their collection — including a 1941 Schwinn Paramount restored by Waterford Cycles. Aside from the physical location the museums website offers some great distraction. Hit the timeline, and don’t miss the “For Students” section (even if you are not engaged in a research project, it is a joy). Whittled away a few hours this morning there already…

If you are in the big apple this weekend don’t miss the Outsider Art Fair. This year the annual fair has moved from its original location, the Puck Building, to a more “adult” environment. Still, the art remains true to the mission of the gathering.

Head to 7 West 34th, New York, NY to visit the show, or to the New York Times for a review and related slide show.

Technical wear is always better if it involves pack away goods. These Gore-Tex military raincoats from Axesquin available now from LT JP are “techincal origami” at their best. Lightweight and 100% waterpoof, the Axesquin raincoat pack away nicely into it’s storage bag. Breathable and element resistant. Just don’t try to fight that wave in the 2012 trailer with it.
