Japanese clothier, Sacai bring this simple wool jacket to market for Spring/Summer 2009. As Sarah form Colette mentioned in her NYT’s “The Moment Blog” a while back, “I love this Japanese brand, which is already 10 years old. The people behind it feel no need for press, fancy shows or presentations. The collection is always perfect, and very easy to buy.”

Obedient Sons & Daughters Closing

obedient sons closing Obedient Sons & Daughters Closing

Sad news on the fashion coming from Obedient Sons & Daughters. From the official press release on the matter:

Today Christina and Swaim Hutson regretfully announce the closing of Obedient Sons, LLC due to complications with the brand’s primary investor and their current minority ownership interest. In the past year, the brand has had tremendous growth and success; however, during this time there has not been sufficient capital to support the growth. The company’s current ownership structure has presented the challenge of bringing on additional outside investors. “For the last year, we have continuously fought to maintain daily operations and have exhausted all alternatives and at this point we need to move on,” said Swaim Hutson.

Fans of the Hutson’s will be happy to know that “Christina and Swaim plan to exit the brand and launch a new label with sole ownership set to premier at their February 14, 2009 runway show in New York.”

We featured Folk’s SS09 collection a while back now, but now the pieces are entering stores we can give them a closer look. The collection looks to be a great one as they’ve added light, slightly baggy shirts, woven belts, wallets and more chunky knits, as well as providing new colourways for items featured in their AW08 collection. The collection is available from Oki-Ni.

Founded by Helena Kapidzic and Alexander Gerlach, Berlin based Nicone was established in 2007. While the label does feature a range of items, their strongest pieces are their graphic print t-shirts. The drop-crotch trousers actually look wearable – they’re still an acquired taste – but these are just about the only pair we’d recommend to anyone. Check out Nicone’s site here.

Cold Method’s Spring Summer collection carries over its ‘9 Aesthetics’ motto into the warmer months with their new capsule collection. The Amsterdam based label believe that “what men need is a capsule wardrobe with a limited amount of essential pieces”. Included in the 9 pieces for SS09 are a lightweight trench, a pair of straight cut light grey trousers and blue summer scarf. Take a look at the collection after the jump.

Kazimon Eintausend Diver’s Watch with Pelican Case

kazimon eintausend diver watch front Kazimon Eintausend Divers Watch with Pelican Case

I will admit that the Pelican Case and custom case-back removal tool which the Kazimon “Eintausend” Diver’s Watch ships was the “deal sealer” for me. But the more I look into this German watchmaker’s “flagship diving watch,” the more I am attracted to what you actually get for it’s budget price tag of 2033$US.

The “Eintausend” (German for 1000) is almost a steal in some ways. The black diving bezel sits on top of 44mm casing (cut from a high grade stainless steel) that houses a thick 3mm domed sapphire crystal with an AR coating – call it scratch proof for all intensive purposes. You get a 25-jewel Swiss movement, inside a shockproof and antimagnetic construction. The face and hands are coated in C3 SuperLuminova for excellent readability. It’s simply finished with the date between the four and five hour.

As our editor in Geneva put it, “you are buying a diver’s watch with similar functionality to the new Rolex Deep Sea at a 1/5th of the price.” And by golly, they even take Paypal.

We’re told these will not be easy finds. You have been forewarned. Atelier LaDurance, once again, blends their premium selvedge denim against the luggage form. Two standouts come via the Suit Carrier and Weekender Bags. Details are the prize in both of these pieces of luggage. Avoiding the technical, these bags are made from 11oz denim and saddle leather which is produced in the same factories as the famous Goyard luggage. Both the Suit Carrier and the Weekender feature zip top closures, saddle leather handles, brass studded bases, and Vichy check linings. They simply look great.
