Pulling great inspiration from the fashions of early 80’s British streets, the Rag & Bone Spring/Summer 2009 collection for men just breathes of angst and reform. From charcoal division shirts with trousers to line proper wool suits, the collection is much blue and grey – a proper color palette for the current economy. Think “This is England” … a little.

Covered briefly when we first looked at the J. Crew Spring 2009 collection, this limited edition postal bag is handcrafted and “meticulously” finished in American leather. The postal bag is a replica of mailbags used for more than one hundred years by the US Postal Service before they moved onto canvas bags. “Designed to improve with age, our hand-oiled, hand-stained, hand-burnished postal messengers are sewn by experienced artisans on century-old leather machines.” An excellent bag for the everyman. Score another one for ‘new’ media. In a slightly bizarre move, United Bamboo have decided to post a A/W 2009 preview on Facebook rather than releasing it through the usual media channels. On the plus side for them, at least they knew the real fans of the collection would see it first, even if it would take longer than usual to filter down to the traditional media outlets. While we don’t hate double-breasted coats, it is getting harder to recommend them when it’s been the prevailing coat style for going on two years now. So when we see pieces like this Edifice coat, we can’t let it go by. This coat features those buttons that Edifice use for a lot of their pieces and is of quite a slim-fit, making it a perfect spring coat. Get it from Style Cruise.

Italian shoemakers Premiata are the latest in a long list of designer to create shoes in the colour of the season for their SS09 collection. These are more classic than some of the other blue shoes we’ve been featuring lately, but the handmade look of these shoes makes them stand out. They also look as if they’d age gracefully. This is good news for everybody not living in NYC or Los Angeles. Opening Ceremony has not only released a new website, but they also finally have an online store, offering both their in-house collection and many other exciting brands that they carry in store.

Slowly all our favorite New York stores are making it online. Not too long ago we have seen Odin make the move, and now also finally Opening Ceremony.

Fashionisto gives their thoughts on the Richard Chai Autumn 2009 collection. “This season sees the New York debut of Chai’s third menswear collection.  Chai approaches menswear with caution opting for a safe wearable collection.  Chai focuses on outerwear, presenting his reinterpretation of the motorcycle jacket and peacoat among others.  Chai’s collection is most notably marked by both fitted and relaxed silhouettes decked in plaids.”
