Known world-wide as the site of Lincoln’s assassination, Washington D.C.’s Ford’s Theater will reopen next week as part of a new museum complex. The timing is advantageous, the week marks Lincoln’s 200 birthday. Today the NYT reviews the new enterprise, which includes the nearby Peterson House. Like at Memphis’ Civil Rights Museum, the power of place will work to enhance the ideas presented.

linde werdelin the spidolite chronographs Linde Werdelin The SpidoLite Chronographs

We’ve mentioned the Linde Werdelin watch company before- they’re Two Timer Biformeter is a killer specimen into what man can do with machines. Now they are back with something new in the form of the Spidolite Chronographs. Hodinkee describes the new titanium based watches best, “The real news-worthy piece of this release is that the SpidoLite is the first of many watches from Linde Werdelin that will feature movements from independent manufacturers.  In fact, they will release a new watch every single year that features an independent movement.  The watches will of course be produced in limited numbers (as the SpidoLite skeleton will be released in a run of only 44).” Drilled Ti. I just like saying it.

The above Ooch Chair is almost like an adult version of the quick flip ‘futon’ many of us had as children. Except, more stylish and far more practical. It comes from the mind of Sam Sannia, whose other designs are equally quirky and similarly intriguing. Six Different Ways pointed us to Sannia, his own website provided views of his full capacity.

Globe-Trotter has been making suitcases since 1897. They use Vulcan Fibre, a durable material made of compressed paper. This fiber has been produced in exactly the same way since 1850. With those facts, history is on the side of the Centenary Trolley Suitcase. Add to that, they are entirely hand made. Moss has them for sale.

Man of Moods Poplin Washer “Geometrical” Trench

We love the rigid lines of this Man of Moods trench coat. “MofM double breast trench features its long tight silhouette balanced by the oversize collar, subtle vertical and horizontal “geometrical” patterns throughout, and the use of “poplin” tightly woven fabric (supima cotton weft and silk warp), which went through the “washer” process. Weaving supima cotton (or supreme pima cotton) with silk combines the polished texture and soft and strong characteristics of the two fabrics. The fabric is washed to provide a natural, soft look. 4 front hidden button closure. 2 front pockets.” Available at Atsui Seattle.

“Natural Born Thrillers” is the name given to the forthcoming Spring/Summer 2009 Collection from London’s Thomas Pink – which sits well with they describe as looks “inspired by some frankly weird and wonderful themes.” The color scheme of choice in their Spring/Summer line is bold – nothing subtle in the colors here. They’re slimfit shirts take center stage in a variety of tones and fabrics. The waist grey cardigan vest is a great look against their traditional pink. It’s a proper men’s line for the gentleman not held back by the dark tones of the times.

Martin Margiela Sticker Effect Wallets

martin margiela sticker effect wallet front Martin Margiela Sticker Effect Wallets

What would make these sticker effect wallets from Martin Margiela even more dope would be actual peel away stickers. Imagine a little MM icon sticker that I could post up against the telephone poles in Montreal or better yet, against the glass windows of competing fashion houses (just kidding). The wallets are made from nubuck leather with a PVC overcoating giving them a smooth shine. Find the now at Oki-ni.

Founded in 1997 in Osaka Japan, Creep’s Men’s line moved into the hands of Toronto based Hiroshi Awai’s hands. The new creative direction brought a Japanese aesthetic to North America shores – a perfect place to consider development of an American workwear inspired line. Check these views from CReep’s Spring/Summer 2009 collection.
