apc houndstooth bomber APC Houndstooth Bomber

This appears to be the season of reinventing old jackets. Everyone has been writing about the return of the trench (I thought that returned about two years ago?) and now lightweight Baracuta-style bomber jackets are the latest to get the revival treatment. This A.P.C bomber is a very fine houndstooth (as you can see on the right hand side) and will prove to be a great spring and autumn piece. Get it from Start.

Journal Standard Parka

journal standard parka Journal Standard Parka

It seems like you can’t turn anywhere without seeing a parka this season, the Patrik Ervell look is one that’s pretty perfect for spring, so it’s only natural that parkas would start being promoted alongside chinos and denim shirts. This Journal Standard parka is of the crumpled kind and would make a nice visual contrast against some chinos and a chambray shirt. Get it if you can from Style Cruise.

Check after the jump for alternative colourways and styling pictures.

Steve McQueen Metisse Desert Racer Replica Motorcycle

Hell For Leather brings us new of on the Steve McQueen Desert Racer motorcycle from England’s Metisse, but they’re not happy about the use of McQueen’s name in the project. “England’s Metisse Motorcycles is building a replica of the Desert Racer it made for Steve McQueen in 1966. Housing a reconditionedTriumph TR6 engine in a custom, oil-bearing steel cradle frame, the bike is specced the same as McQueen’s personal bike: BSA yokes, battleship grey bodywork, Amal components. It looks like a neat scrambler for casual dirt riding, but its spec, price and heavy-handed use of McQueen’s name leaves us cold.” (via stylecrave)

Medievalism: Fashion’s Romance with the Middle Ages

19 March 2009, 21.00 | Posted in Art, Fashion | No comments »

medievalism front Medievalism: Fashions Romance with the Middle Ages

Romantic ideas of chivalry and courtly magnificence from the Middle Ages have inspired the use of medieval silhouettes and details in modern fashion design, literature, architecture and art. Also known as Gothic style, medievalism blossomed in the mid-19th century as a sentimental response toward the societal challenges of rapid industrialization. While its origins lie in early antiquarian studies and politics, the revival of medieval silhouettes and motifs today emerges through popular mediums such as films, books and fairy tales that are distant interpretations.

Featuring over 40 ensembles, accessories and rare books, this exhibition will show medieval influences on fashion designs of the early 19th century through current collections. From Mariano Fortuny’s luxurious velvet gowns to John Galliano’s haute couture armor for Christian Dior to current Gothic street style, this fanciful installation brings together fashions that evoke the sumptuous textures and elegant, flowing lines that capture the medieval spirit.

Open until July 5, 2009, at Phoenix Art Museum.

Oki-Ni got together with some of the geekiest minds in the world of denim to create an in-depth guide. Without a doubt we can say that we have not come across a guide that goes as far as this one. The guide is made up of an a-z dictionary, denim care guide, the anatomy of a jean, denim finishes, denim factories and mills, and of course also a denim history.
