narrative autumn 2009 preview 01 Narrative Autumn/Winter 2009 Preview

Narrative have given us these a sneak peek at their Autumn/Winter 2009 collection and a couple of their new ranges. One of their new ranges includes the ’shark sole’ collection, which uses the sole with several classic shoe styles. Narrative founder Scott Emerson, who is also the footwear designer for Alexander McQueen, has moved factories to the same one where the McQueen shoes are made so Narrative’s quality has been improved even further.

We’ll have a full feature on Narrative’s new collection later on this week, but for now take a look at this preview after the jump.

paul smith cervantes shoes Paul Smith Cervantes Shoe

We featured the Paul Smith Dip-Dye range a while back but this Cervantes shoe is a new addition to the range. The stand-out feature of these shoes is the colour – a great shade of off-white. The dip-dye process – which consists of putting the shoes into large wooden drums and tumbling them – gives the shoes a unique look that couldn’t be replicated through standard methods. Get these from the Paul Smith store.

Take a look at more detailed pictures after the jump.

Tronic was commissioned by Diesel’s 55DSL brand to create an experimental brand film for their fashion show in Italy. The film will also be showcased in their flagship stores in the US, Tokyo and Dubai. Using the checker pattern from their new collection as inspiration, Tronic conceptualized a future form of pattern mapping, where our clothes could be mapped onto our digital doppelganger.” (video via Tronic)

Mentioned this before and will mention again, online exhibitions are a great way to waste away an afternoon and come out of it having learned something. Independence Seaport Museum’s What We Saved: Old-Time Ephemera From the Seaport Museum’s Archives does just what the title suggests. Including are letters, photographs, broadsides, cruise ship menus, and more. Well worth a look.

A few more bits and bobs from the exhibition after the jump.

Luxist reports in on the Spring 2009 collection from Barbour – “Britprep.” “So what exactly is ‘Britprep?’ According to Barbour, the look is not quite as clean and crisp as American Preppy. vael feature front New Feature | The Vael Project

We recently chatted with Coleman Horn about The Vael Project and his thoughts on design more generally.

It is tough to generalize, because there are certainly great designers out there and there are a lot of crap designers. The difference between a good designer and a crap designer, from my point of view, is that a crap designer needs to put their ego, their mark into the object. Who knows what it is? I did it too. I mean in school everything I did looked like something Karim Rashid would have done. It was wacky.
