“The Third Generation” is the name given to the Autumn/Winter 2009 collection from New York’s Nom de Guerre. The collection as hyrcollective says, “has a feeling of Arctic, nomadic life, with the usual black and grey colors complemented by some beautiful khaki, cream and olive tones.” We see it more from the Eastern Bloc influence, which we love.

Under the name Emily Forgot, graphic artist Emily Alston produces playful work responding to the odd and the everyday. Her latest installation is on view in the windows of London’s Selfridges. It is titled “Zoot Allure.” (via It’s Nice That).

Cardigans are usually preferred over jumpers come spring, but when V::Room make a jumper as lightweight as this, it’s hard to turn it down. This jumper won’t do much when it gets colder (or if it’s still cold wherever you live) but it does make a great layering piece. We’re not sure who’d enjoy receiving a gift that basically told them they looked worn out, but we’re sure this’ll be a good reminder for folks who enjoy the nightlife a little too much. We featured Rogues Gallery’s SS09 collection before but now it’s hit stores we can take a closer look at a few items. A stand out piece from the collection is this canvas bag, which takes ‘authenticity’ to new levels by using the canvas from an old sailing boat to make these bags. Making bags from recycled materials has been attempted before by the likes of Freitag, but this bag looks far better than the freitag ones ever did. Get it from Tres Bien.

Apolis Activism presents a great collaboration in their Spring 2009 collection with Katin, who can probably be labeled the innovators of surf trunks.

“In the late 1950s, Nancy and Walter Katin were in the business of making canvas boat covers, and the “multi” billion dollar surf wear industry of the late nineties and beyond was all but unimaginable. Yet one day a young man came into the Katin’s shop in Surfside, California, complaining of the difficulty in finding a pair of swim shorts durable enough to stand up to the then-quirky pastime of surfboard riding. Walter focused on a vision with his sewing machine and some of the sturdy boat canvas previously used for boat covers and whipped up the first pair of Kanvas by Katin surf trunks . The surfer was stoked. Word of Nancy and Walter’s creation quickly spread up and down the coast, and the Katin’s were suddenly in the surf trunk business. The American surf wear industry was born.”

Trouser shorts work under a variety of conditions, including: weddings in Bermuda and urban strolls in the summer. Unlike casual shorts, short trousers are made from fine materials as found in suits, like these two specimens from Neil Barrett. Both are made in Italy by the finest of tailors. We first spotted the Union backpack during MAGIC in Las Vegas this month. Its was late in the evening nearto closing time and no one occupied the Porter booth. So we looked around and found this banger of a tote/backpack combo. Opening Ceremony has now taken stock of them which makes our purchasing that muc easier.
