A collection from Japan’s Yohji Yamamoto that did not make us over examine the garments would scare me. While I would not consider every garment a first choice, the details are spectacular. The use of fabrics and textile is what keeps us looking. Like music which requires time to absorb, the Autumn/Winter Yamamoto collection requires the same patience. (lefigaro)

Denim shorts have traditonally been a no-no but there’s been several designers who are making denim shorts look good, even if it won’t satisfy the purists. These Rittenhouse denim shorts are the perfect shorts length – i.e not so short they look like boxers and not so long they look like cropped trousers – and the material makes for a pretty comfortable wear. It would seem like laceless shoes are destined to be the next big thing come AW09. Narrative have shown us their AW09 collection and we thought we’d bring these oxfords to your attention first. As we’ve mentioned before, Narrative’s shoes are now made in the same factory where Alexander McQueen’s footwear is made so the quality has been upped another level. Look out for the full collection later on this week.

Brogues have come back in a huge way recently. B-Store’s version comes in natural tan, so you can give it a worn-in look yourself. The brogue-ing used in this shoe is known as the American way of brogue-ing, so it’s a little surprising that the quintessentially English B-store have chosen this method. We do have to say that we prefer the English way of brogue-ing, but that’s all just us. Get it from Farfetch.

It’s been a back and forth year for the people behind the Geil Magazine. We’re not going to go into the back and forth politics of it all but we will report that issue one looks to be a reality. As Friller mentions, “Geil Magazine will be a more fashion oriented niche consumer magazine comprising about 260 pages, covering both the German and international fashion scene. The Spring 2009 issue of Geil Magazine features Lucien Tomkins on the cover by Bruno Staub.”

At 1200$US, these totes made from “heavy duty plain-woven canvas” may be some of the most luxury prices canvas bags on the market. Our mistake! In 1966 Bobby Moore hoisted the World Cup to a jubulant crowd at Wembley Stadium. That day, he wore red, but in the quarterfinals, the England Squad had been dressed in full white. Aitor Throup built the new England kit from this look, the heritage of UMBRO, and the notion of fusing traditional tailoring with a forward thinking of the athletes needs.

Today, as England takes on Slovakia in a friendly at the new Wembley, Capelo’s men will march to to the field in Throup’s creation. Fashion meets performance, and most importantly works to restore pride in the Three Lions shirt. Throup’s quest was to form a kit that players and fans alike viewed positively–something that related to strong traditions of manufacture and footballing glory.

In a time where the football shirt, with frequently changing sponsorships, has become largely ephemeral, UMBRO produces a shirt with potential as a new heritage item.
