Grenson Distressed Derbies

grenson distressed oxfords Grenson Distressed Derbies

Grenson have been making moves for a while now, re-establishing their place as a quality footwear brand at a  relatively affordable price. We’re quite the fans of these distressed leather chocolate derbies, although we hope this is as far as they go with the ‘trendy’ designs. The brogue detailing is nice, but it almost over-complicates the shoe. Sometimes simpler is better. Get these from Matches.

Lanvin Denim Blazer

lanvin denim blazer Lanvin Denim Blazer

Just so you know, we don’t approve of this styling. As much as we’d love to have Tres Bien style every outpick we do, sometimes we just have to make do with the styling on the site. With that point out of the way, this Lanvin blazer is by far the sharpest denim blazer we’ve seen. It’s one button – which can go in and out of fashion, but when a jacket’s this good, it doesn’t matter how many buttons there are (as long as it’s no more than three). Get it from Browns.

Thom Browne Print Ad

thom browne ad Thom Browne Print Ad

The same “simple” approach that Thom Browne takes in his collections, at least that is the impression one gets at first, the designer also takes on his print ads. We loved his recent Pitti Uomo presentation, which also seemed simple. Simple might be the wrong word in this case, it is just different and very clean. There is much less of an emphasis on the surroundings – they seem more straight forward and maybe also more product focused. That also applies to this seasons print campaign, which even features the designer himself in the middle of the picture. The strap covering the eyes comes in Thom Brownes signature colors, used on many of his pieces in the collection.

Let’s not over analyze though – bottom line we like the print campaign and see it perfectly fit the brand.

Odyn Vovk (traslated to One Wolf) debuts their first collection with Spring/Summer. As Fashionisto mentioned, “Odyn Vovk’s first season does not have a theme, because [designer, Austin] Sherbanenko did not want a particular story for his first collection.  He ‘designed the collection without the structured direction that a hard lined story would offer.’  He ‘had a much more spontaneous approach.  Ideas would pop into [his] head and [he would] follow the ones worth following.’  The collection’s palette consist of black and white.”

Croatian born Damir Doma is inspired by beauty from a “place” where “references and timelines either melt into one, or seem to vanish completely.” The Damir Doma collection for Spring 2009 uses loose threading and organic fabric draping to structure clothing that falls onto the body as a second skin. Available now from Oki-ni.

curated mag - V&A bookshop

Over the weekend the V&A opened their first ever dedicated book shop. Located in South Kensington, not far from the museum itself, the shop is designed with the student and enthusiast in mind. Think a full range of art and design with all the theory one might need thrown in. The space was designed with aid from Vitsoe, who’ve got an eye for shelving. (via Wallpaper*).

Julius Shoulder Bags

23 March 2009, 20.00 | Posted in Accessories | 1 comment »

julius shoulder bags front Julius Shoulder Bags

We love the mutated leather look from this collection of shoulder bags from Julius. They leather looks almost to be washed in some oil base which gives them a very wrinkled and shrunken characteristics without the cracking usually associated the look. Worn well and made by the fine craftsmen of Japan. Find them now at Blackbird for 845$US.
