Designers have always looked at the best way to reduce cost and waste when patterning their goods on raw materials. The less waste, the less you spend on fabrics. Japan’s Sugar Cane takes it to the next level with their Recycled Sweet Denim line. “Normally from jean production the excess fabric from the cutting room is discarded, Sugar Cane has taken this fabric and macerated it and spun it back into yarn which is then used to produce the denim….The recycled yarn is used as the weft (Fill) thread while the warp is unused pure indigo dyed 50/50 (sugarcane/cotton) blend yarn.” Like all Japanese denim, there is a premium to pay, but in this case, you’ll be putting money behind a forward thinking company. Available now from Self Edge.
