philadelphia antique show Philadelphia Antiques Show

An annual right of Spring, The Philadelphia Antiques Show is undoubtedly the seasons best. Dealers from across the land descend on the Navy Yard with their best (a function of being held the same weekend as Winterthur’s Furniture Forum), and exhibit for 4 days. Antiques Roadshow star Leigh Keno is among the exhibitors. For a link to fashion, you can tell Leigh and his twin brother Leslie apart by the suits they wear – Leslie is always in an English cut.

The show runs from Saturday until April 22, 2009, at Philadelphia’s Navy Yard, 5100 South Broad Street.

monocle may 2009 1 Monocle May 2009 Fashion Spread | Mellow Yellow

We present you the new Monocle May ‘09 fashion spread, entitled “Mellow Yellow”. Once again the magazine impresses with immaculate taste and presents some fantastic outfits. A lot of pastel tones made it into the new fashion spread, along with check patterns and more. We also really liked the footwear, including Tod’s loafers and Hermès Espadrilles. We are aware that nobody needs Hermès Espadrilles, but they look great. Last but not least the spread also includes some great knitwear pieces.

Take a look at the complete Monocle May ‘09 “Mellow Yellow” fashion spread after the jump.

tom ford foulard ascot 00 Tom Ford Foulard

Yeah, I said foulard. Get “British” with this Tom Ford foulard, or ascot if you prefer. It’s made for Spring/Summer and I dare you to try and pull this off with the success that Mr. Ford does himself. I would recommend a quick tanning bed to ensure proper Euro appeal. You, sir, will be king for the day. Get it now from Colette #ofcourse.

Sugar Cane Recycled Sweet Denim

Designers have always looked at the best way to reduce cost and waste when patterning their goods on raw materials. The less waste, the less you spend on fabrics. Japan’s Sugar Cane takes it to the next level with their Recycled Sweet Denim line. “Normally from jean production the excess fabric from the cutting room is discarded, Sugar Cane has taken this fabric and macerated it and spun it back into yarn which is then used to produce the denim….The recycled yarn is used as the weft (Fill) thread while the warp is unused pure indigo dyed 50/50 (sugarcane/cotton) blend yarn.” Like all Japanese denim, there is a premium to pay, but in this case, you’ll be putting money behind a forward thinking company. Available now from Self Edge.

Looking for something a bit out of the norm for that next vacation? A mixture of tree house and a deft adaptation of a “gross mechanical object” (that’s collections manager speak for huge things), the airplane suit at Costa Verde Resort in Costa Rica employs the shell of a 1965 Boeing 727. The suite has two rooms and a relaxing looking balcony. (via ArchDaily).

jil sander autumn 2009 eyewear 01 Jil Sander Autumn/Winter 2009 Eyewear

We previewed the Jil Sander eyewear collection yesteday and we can show you the full men’s collection today. We’re also reliably informed that the frames used in the above picture and yesterday’s pictures are made from brushed & treated plastic polymer. As we’ve personally road tested a pair of these, we feel we should re-iterate just how solidly made they are. They look certain to justify the – undoubtedly high -  price.

Take a look at the rest of the collection after the jump.

Edifice Double Breasted Denim Jacket

We’re sure everyone’s tired of us featuring Edifice pieces no one can buy. That’s why this time we’ve decided to feature some Edifice that’s actually available for people outside of Japan. Normal double breasted jackets have been kind of overdone the last couple of years, but when they’re done like this we can get behind it. The denim on this piece is very soft, so it’s just as comfortable as wearing a cotton jacket. Get it from Liberty.
