forme dexpression holdall Forme DExpression Holdall

We’ve featured Forme D’Expression’s full collection a couple of times here, but now we can get a closer look at one of the pieces from the SS09 collection. As regular readers will know, we have a preference for the worn-in look on accessories and this holdall is as beaten up as they come. Get it from Matches.

Yves Saint Laurent for Puma High Tops

puma ysl high tops Yves Saint Laurent for Puma High Tops

Although Puma have collaborated with designers like Alexander McQueen in the past, the news (thanks to Men.Style via WWD) that they’ve collaborating with Yves Saint Laurent still seemed a pretty leftfield combination. YSL aren’t really known for their collaborations and, no offense to Puma, we had assumed that they’d start this route with a company that were more known for great designs. The shoe will be available exclusively online and there’s no word on price or release date.

disco Selectism | Around the Web

01. An Icon, Despite Itself

“What is the unbreakable rule of “good design”? It is not looking great, or being dazzlingly innovative. Nor is it reflecting changes in the way we see the world, or even scoring lots of environmental and ethical points.” (NYT)

02. Why We Need Audiophiles

“This is Michael Fremer. He’s listening to “Avalon” by Roxy Music on his $350,000 stereo system. It soundsexcellent. He’s a bit crazy, but if you love music, you need him.” (Gizmodo)

03. A Few Lines With Vince Aletti – Disco Dispatches From 70s NYC (above)

“Here are some extracts from DJhistory.com’s ace new book The Disco Files 1973-78: New York’s Underground Week By Week. Here, in 1976, author Vince Aletti is letting his readers know about the new cult of the DJ and why the rockists just don’t get it …” (The Quietus)

04. YSL, Puma Team up on Sneaker

“Yves Saint Laurent has joined forces with sister company Puma to create a high-top sneaker melding Stefano Pilati’s design prowess and the activewear firm’s technical expertise.” (WWD)

05. Luxury Grilling: 10 Expensive Grills for the Barbecues of the Rich

“Man has been burning beast since he first tamed flames, but the relatively simple process of barbecuing has evolved with a fever pitch over time.  Today, the art of grilling has been made bigger and better by adding shiny stainless steel, multiple burners, wheels, thermometers, refrigerators and even touch screens.” (Stylecrave)

General Idea Autumn/Winter 2009

general idea fall winter 2009 00 General Idea Autumn/Winter 2009

Korea’s General Idea is a young brand. Bumsuk Choi started the line back in Spring of 2004 and has (as we have mentioned) collaborated on a variety of projects around F1 Racing. But his strength will be in entering a U.S. market that is awfully hungry for the tailoring of Asian designers. “For Fall/Winter 2009, Bumsuk Choi focuses on highly tailored jackets and coats in geometric shapes and constructions. Bumsuk’s continuing color palette of black and gray are broken up with unexpected pops of bright color and metallic details. The line also includes quirky shirting, oversized knits, playful pants…”

Harvey Nichols’ “Pun-tastic” Postcards

harvey nichols food postcards 00 Harvey Nichols’ Pun tastic Postcards

Give it to Harvey Nichols for getting cheeky with the celebs – many of whom I am sure shop in their stores. The UK based retailer is adding some postcard packs to help promote their food markets. Designed by Ruan Milborrow and Mark Nightingale of the Mr.h agency, “the postcards will go on sale in the Harvey Nichols Foodmarket later this week. ‘They are based on ‘Food Celebrities’ – I was [originally] going to call them Stars in Their Pies’, explains Milborrow” (crblog)

Oki-ni has taken stock on some excellent quality knitwear from Atelier La Durance. The small French label known for their superior denim and Selectism recommended leather belts, takes a turn into the world of knitwear. The lightweight loose knits which include long sleeve crews, polos, and cardigans, are made from 100% fine gauge cotton and should be dealt with gently when laundered. We’re loving their Atelier embroided logo as well.

folk drawstring cardigan front Folk Drawstring Cardigan

A simple drawstring has been added to one of he new cardigans from Folk this season. While I’m not sure that a cinch tie to a man’s waist is acceptable when walking down the sunny streets of London, the button detailing on the collar and front an pockets makes up for the addition. Available now at Question Air
