London’s Oliver Spencer brings that British contemporary look to the masses with a fine Spring/Summer 2009 collection. “Oliver Spencer carries a nautical influence this summer. This S.N.S. Herning Zip-up reminds me of the path that the 501 Levi’s took. In 1947 they original slim cut was released. So was the Herning Zip-up. Somewhere in the 60’s the 501 received an upgrade. Designer Soichiro Ito’s SOE line for Spring/Summer 2009 may be modeled with a school boy in mind but the casual looks are proper for the streets. The Japanese embraced the short trouser on their men seasons ago while the trickle is only now showing up in the West. A nice line of wears.

As reported on his site, Face Hunter photographer, Yvan Rodic is reporting that his web based street scene photography collection will be gathered and published by Thames & Hudson in 2010. Rodic, based in Paris, is well known for shooting the young and fashionable worldwide – from Iceland to Russia to London. Rodic and Face Hunter are now part of a growing movement in photography that have moved from simple photo web blogs to print.

Launched yesterday, Artbabble.org is a new online video site for art content. It was started by the Indianapolis Art Museum, who has some solid partnerships to lead and for the future. The above video (admittedly dry) gives the full run down of the intent of the site.

Good news for Paul Smith fans – he’s decided to re-release his seminal book ‘You can find inspiration in everything (and if you can’t, look again)’. The book was previously only available at ridiculous prices (£200 and upwards) so it’s great to see that it’s available for a very reasonable £30. A few new high design airline initiatives have been shown on these pages in the past. Swiss Air is another brand hedging bets on luxury air travel. This month they introduce a new First Class cabin into the fleet, with the First Class Suite by Priestman Goode Design at the center of the launch. Privacy rules, and each seat can be easily adjusted without the passenger being overwhelmed by technology. (via Yatzer).
