We’re seeing an increase in wooden soles lately, with everyone from Yohji Yamamoto to Our Legacy getting in on the act. NDC are the latest to show off their wooden soles (Edit: The heels are wooden, but the soles are leather) with this khaki boots. They’re called ‘The Sunday Best’ for reasons unknown to us (maybe they’re fans of the blog?) and have a distressed suede upper. Boots are the least practical shoe for scorching heat, but if you’re in between warm and hot then these would be a good choice. Get them from Matches.

Are you sure the soles are made of wood and not leather? Other than clogs, wooden soled shoes are incredibly rare. Traditional shoe making calls for leather soles that can have a grainy appearance. At times, heels are stacked with wood (really wood fiber) to look like stacked leather which is traditional but very expensive.
I’m pretty sure the heel is wooden, although they may have cheaped out on the rest of the sole. Seeing as these boots cost nearly £400 and are hand finished (as all NDC shoes are), it’s entirely possible that the entire sole is wooden.
Unless the world has gone crazy, these will be leather soles. The heel will be made of layers of leather. Unless the world has gone crazy. VERY crazy…
they are leather soles. wooden soles? seriously? the author needs to educate themselves on shoes.
Please pick up a copy of “Handmade Shoes for Men” by Laszlo Vass. It’s a fantastic intro to men’s footwear and its construction.
People so often mistake the mulitple layers of leather that shoemakers use to build up the heel of a boot for wood. But for the author to make that same mistake?
One can only hope (thanks for the sideways reference!)
