Style Savage gets into the mix with a look into pop-up retail in London specifically with some news from Onetruesaxon. “Following the opening of the Onetruesaxon ‘Casual Tailor’ Store in the heart of their home town of Nottingham a year ago, the label has brought their Casual Tailor style store to London for a six week period only…For me, this is one of the most obvious positives with regard to Pop Up retail spaces. The brand, set up by “ordinary blokes obsessed with decent clothing” are showcasing premium quality garments from their Spring / Summer 09 collections…”

ACL gets some first looks at the forthcoming Steven Alan Autumn/Winter collection for 2009. I know MW is a big fan of the line and the designer himself. In his own words, “I have always thought that Steven Alan — the collection — is the perfect encapsulation of my style. Rumpled and plaid, but dressy and casual. Perfectly disheveled. The AW09 range is no different. Mr. Alan puts forward another solid collection of clothes I just want to own and wear. ”

The Newton Table is designed to explore the potential of molded plywood. Its designer, Karl Andersson, employs 3D design software and 5-axis mills to create newly possible forms with the material. His interest in plywood comes from its efficiency in manufacture. Andersson also claims that high quality furniture inspires owners to hold on longer. This notion pushes the idea that good design is, in and off itself, sustainable design. (via Frame Mag).

With clean lines, and garments that represent well, Five Four does well in their presentation. The collection pulls from the coastal and nautical experience of the West Coast and offers a clear alternative to the majors who play in this category. The price point will make many of you very happy.

The R.Newbold for Goodhood pop chinos may not be the first to market with their offering but they do bring the heat in terms of construction. Available in three colors – navy blue, grey, and beige, the chinos are made from 100% cotton selvedge twill and fit regular with just a touch of taper on the hem line. the contrasting stitching on the pockets is a nice feature. Great durable looks from this collaboration.

The Monocle Shop is making its way over to Paris via Officina Slowear. Presenting for the first time in Paris, The Monocle Shop Trunk Show will feature brands such as Valetxtra, CdG, and Fritz Hansen to name a few. Goods are available for purchase from the online Monocle store of direct in Paris during the three day event.

Roughly ten days ago we noted the hailing of the $1 bill as a design classic. One that needed no re-conception, and would likely be immune from change. Designer Richard Smith thinks otherwise. His redesign program is hinged on the belief that a new look for currency can help lift the economy. Changing the look of US notes would work in step with a larger national rebranding scheme. Smith has come up with his own look, and wants the public to chime in with their own designs on his blog as well. (via DB).

We previewed Ally Capellino’s A/W09 collection on Friday, but because we couldn’t hold back on this bag armada (and because we said we’d post it today) we’ve put up the full collection today. While we were fans of the SS09 collection, we much prefer Capellino’s winter collections. As we noted in the preview, there’s a healthy amount of waxed cotton and they’re available in suitably autumnal colours. Cotton aside, there’s also dollops of nylon, leather and canvas in satchel, holdall and messenger bag form.
