Wallpaper* reports in on Viktor & Rolf’s never ending push to spread fashion across varying spectrums. “This month the pair turn to Opera, dressing performers for a production of Carl Maria von Weber’s, Der Freischütz… Visionary director Robert Wilson will, on the 30th May, present his interpretation of Weber’s seminal work in Germany’s largest opera house, the Festspielhaus in Baden-Baden.”

Rules of Style | J.Crew’s Jenna Lyons

jenna lyons Rules of Style | J.Crews Jenna Lyons

Let’s be honest – the rules of style were getting a little tired. There’s only so many times we can be told to buy clothes that fit before it gets boring. This month, in J.Crew’s creative director Jenna Lyons, we get a mixture of the usual tips (buy clothes that fit, don’t overdo it, etc etc) and a couple of ones we haven’t read before. One of her complaints is that:

Men don’t shop enough. Being current has everything to do with finding the place you want to shop, whether it’s J. Crew or Tom Ford.

While we agree with the sentiment, saying this in Details (and by extension, sites like this one) is essentially preaching to the converted. Read the full article here.

B.Son Zip Mock Hoodie

b son navy hoodie 01 B.Son Zip Mock Hoodie

B.Son first released this jacket style in AW08 but now they’ve re-released it in a great shade of blue. B.Son have been doing the whole ‘casual fabric-structured tailoring’ thing for a minute now and it seems that fashion in general seems to have caught up, judging from the amount of sweatpants at the last fashion week. We’re a little worried about the amount of spandex in this though. Get this from Context.

Veronique Branquinho to close

veronique branquinho 01 Veronique Branquinho to close

Men.Style turns us on to the news that Veronique Branquinho is closing down. We were quite the fans of Branquinho’s collections, so it’s sad to see a great label go down as a result of the crunch. The collections have been going for eleven years now and we assume that the AW09 collection will be the last.

01. A Rare Tour of IMAX Cameras (above)

“There are 26 IMAX film cameras in the world today. At IMAX HQ, I got to play with 4 of them (and take plenty of photographs for you).” (gizmodo)

02. Branding Goes Real Time

“The Internet was always fast. Google made a point during its rise to prominence to detail — to the millisecond — just how quickly it delivered a search result.” (brandweek)

03. Geek Clock

“While everyone else was watching the clock, you were paying attention during math class, storing away square roots and factorials for a day where you could prove your mathematical prowess.” (uncommongoods)

04. Japanese toilet paper “Drop” is the scariest toilet paper you’ve ever seen

“In case you have seen the Japanese horror movie “The Ring” or its acceptable American remake, you already have a taste of what kind of person Koji Suzuki is. The guy didn’t have to do anything with the movies but authored the book of the same name.” (crunchg)

05. “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” House for Sale

“Tucked away in the woods of Chicago, this four-bed, four-bath is a modernist masterpiece, but might be more well-know for its starring role in the painfully infamous car scene of the feature film “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.” (coolhunting)

its nice that issue 01 Its Nice That Issue #1

Nothing makes us happier than seeing our favorite online sites compiling their writing to hard print in the form of bi-annuals. It’s Nice That is a great example of a website taking very strong content from screen to the shelves. “However much we love posting and reading articles online, there’s still no substitute for holding a beautifully printed object in your hands. Because of this we publish a physical incarnation of the blog twice a year, aiming to archive the most interesting posts from the previous six months as well as commission more in-depth features and interviews.”

Issue #1 of It’s Nice That is available now and feature work by Peter Callesen, Bryan Dalton, Karl Grandin, Happypets, Myoung Ho Lee, Oliver Jeffers, PES, and many others. Nothing beats holding printed matter especially the type you love to browse and read. Well done.
