Sweden’s Filippa K continues to work with crockery maker,Rörstrand. Some of their previous work includes cups and saucers which extend the brand into the housewares world. Now, they’re back together working on a new collection of porcelain bowls. “The idea behind the series was to create a line of versatile bowls for every day life whilst still incorporating strong design elements and whether it be shape, form or patterns. Combining and creating a balance between aesthetics and utility is and has always been close to our hearts, and as such, we are especially  proud of the diversity that the range offers.”

trussardi spring summer 2009 00 Trussardi 1911 Spring/Summer 2009

Did Dante Trussardi think back in 1911 that his glove making business would turn into the full fledge design house that it is today? Those who seek the Trussardi name are looking for a level of tailoring that only comes from a company that keeps it in-house. We focus in for a few moments on the Spring/Summer 2009 menswear collection. A variety of looks that pull from the European feel. (mensrag)

Space on the National Mall has been set aside for the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture for some time. Recently, a team lead by acclaimed Tanzanian-born David Adjaye was chosen to design the host structure. Congress announced the museum in 2003, which will open officially in 2015. The architects have 3 years to turn the winning submission into a workable blue print. Estimated cost is $500 million. Quite amazing really.

A full run down of the architects and the losing entries in today’s NYT.

The lads at Valet spoke for a few moments with John Varvatos on his newly launched satellite radio program. “We talked with John Varvatos for a quick preview of his new satellite radio show, “Born in Detroit,” which is launching tomorrow from his CBGB boutique with a live performance by the New York Dolls.” With more and more designers finding new outlets to help brand their work, Varvatos on Radio is a clear extension on the work done in the former CBGB space.

21st Century Abe Stove Pipe Hat by Quintin

We have an incredibly diverse group of writers here at Selectism. Nick S., our man down in Philadelphia, spends a great deal of time thinking about 18th century tattoos, furniture, hip-hop, and Abe Lincoln with the 21st Century Abe Project.

Nick and the team down at the 21st Cenury Abe Project are celebrating Pres. Lincoln’s 200th birthday with an online celebration of his life by looking at his heritage through 21st century eyes. You’ll find a great deal of exciting content on 21st Century Abe, including original musicaly works by Bryce Dessler of The National, and of course, this excellent Stove Pipe Hat produced by Quintin.

The Stove Pipe Hat includes a wool outer, and satin lining with a letter written by Gideon Welles by Lincoln on the inside which reproduces a message sent in 1861 which many consider the signal for the coming start of the Civil War. Note: Lincoln used to store notes in his hat.

You want heritage wear. This is it. More views of the Abe Stove Pipe Hat after the jump.

Lodger Footwear May Shoe of the Month | Italian Diamond Cap Toe

lodger som may italian front Lodger Footwear May Shoe of the Month | Italian Diamond Cap Toe

Lodger Footwear launched the May Shoe of the Month a few days ago. Once again, orders will be taken until the end of the month, and then the shoe will slide into their healthy archives.

Inspired by the 1963 Visconti masterpiece Il Gatopardo (The Leopard), and its depiction of the fall of the Sicilian aristocracy, our May Shoe of the Month belongs to a grander era. It features a diamond shaped cap toe, punched medallion, and fluted throat. It is hand painted in a warm antique walnut colour, and has contrast mahogany slip beading. This is a shoe that will become even more beautiful as it is worn.

More images of Lodger’s Italian Diamond Cap Toe follow.

Hackett Autumn/Winter 2009 Holdall

hackett autumn 2009 holdall Hackett Autumn/Winter 2009 Holdall

This tan holdall is the second of our Hackett A/W09 previews and we’re big fans of this bag. Not only is the logo understated (which is more than can be said for most of their SS09 bag collection) it’s also sturdily made, unlike those annoyingly floppy barrel bags that are doing the rounds lately. The tan shade is also great and would work well within a neutral colour based outfit.
