These shorts aren’t for everyone. We thought we’d get there before anyone else did. The ’setter’ shorts are the shortest of Orlebar Brown’s short collection, but we think that – assuming you can pull it off – they’ll look the best at the pool. We repeat, at the pool. There’s nothing more obscene than a man walking around town in ridiculously short shorts.
Orlebar Brown are a refreshingly old school company that have received a new school lick of paint. This much is obvious from the fact that they’ve got testimonials on their site when people stopped believing online testimonials ages ago. They’ve also collaborated with Monocle in the past, so if it’s good enough for the multi-accented one, it’s good enough for you. You can get this from The Shop at Bluebird or their website.

“There’s nothing more obscene than a man walking around town in ridiculously short shorts.”
Quite the opposite indeed. There is nothing more ridiculous than a man walking around in long, cover-everything-up shorts.
Great shorts.
yo, for swim shorts I like the idea of having normal looking colors and materials.
Like the khaki and the black, are you kidding me dude? i could totally fucks with that. Very cool. As for the length, well I wouldnt know until I tried them on, but they do seem a little on the short side.
Orlebar Brown\’s swim shorts/walking shorts/sports shorts do it all. You can easily wear them to go swimming or to play sports or just for relaxing and hanging out. I own a pair in the longer Bulldog length, which falls a few inches above the knee, and in the shorter Setter length, which falls at mid-thigh. The shorter length is short are not super-short and they look great of you\’re in good shape and, frankly have good legs.
The cut and fit of both the Bulldog and Setter styles are excellent. The tapered leg is great to see after so many years of shapeless, ugly, baggy cargo shorts, which have dominated the market for men;s shorts just about everywhere.
The cost of these shorts is prohibitive, though. The only thing that could explain it would be small production runs. They sell out fast whenever new shipments become available on Orlebar Brown\’s website.
If you can afford a pair, definitely get \’em.
Once you try on these shorts you\’ll want to spend the whole summer in them. They\’re really comfortable. Don\’t be afraid to go for the shorter Setter style. With a T-shirt or polo shirt and trainers (sneakers), you\’ll be all set for infinite comfort – and, yeah, you can go to town or to the movies or shopping in these shorts. It\’s about YOUR comfort, NOT some ignorant nitwit\’s insecurity about his or her out-of-shape body and complete lack of comfort or style.
These shorts really are made for men who have the right figure, but they are pretty awesome swimshorts… I have 2 pairs of Orlebar Brown shorts and they\’re pretty amazing.
And just answer to your testimonial comment on how people don\’t believe them anymore – they actually put mine up back when I bought the shorts in 2007! They\’re a fantastic company to deal with and Adam Brown was very friendly and helpful.
I highly recommend these as an alternative to other swim shorts out there.
Guys, just check new OB+Monocle shorts. Just got a pair for myself in the bright green
