olympus ep 1 leaked Selectism | Around the Web

01. Leaked Olympus E-P1 Micro Four Thirds

“It’s not scheduled to be announced until tomorrow, but it looks like Olympus’ Micro Four Thirds tribute to the classic rangefinder has leaked out onto these here Internets looking every bit as handsome as the top-side leak seen earlier. Remember, we’re talking about a DSLR-sized sensor stuffed inside that retro compact body.” (engadget)

02. Masimilano Fuksas’ Cave Painting Museum Entrance

“Masimilano Fuksas’ Cave Painting Museum entrance – no more than an entrance to a museum, it can be seen emerging from the cave from the valley below. It is sympathetic enough to its context in form and material to both conceal and reveal itself.” (notcot)

03. Valerie Leonard’s Toy Soldiers

“Connecticut artist Valerie Leonard created an American flag out of more than six thousand toy soldiers. She also does hilarious classic pet portraits. Like nothing you’ve ever seen before. Very talented and funny.” (joshspear)

04. Kaplan Thompson House: Virginia’s First LEED Platinum Home

“Arlington, Virginia recently received its first LEED Platinum home, which simultaneously holds the honor of Best Single Family Residential Project from the Virginia Sustainable Building Network. A collaboration between Metro Green and Kaplan Thompson Architects, the four bedroom family home and loft merges contemporary architecture with a sustainable footprint that leaves even us totally green with envy.” (inhabitant)

Albam Chambray Shirt in Rose

Sometimes we just get focused on the tops. Today it’s tops and bright colors. Check this linen/chambray mix from Albam which works over the pink look to be something a bit more rose. Nevertheless, Albam’s quality is a winner in our books and should be investigated as an alternative to your favorite shirting brand. (oi)

Uniform Experiment Suits for Summer

sohpnet summer suits 00 Uniform Experiment Suits for Summer

SOHPNET is one of those shops that forcing me to head into Japan for a visit this Autumn (as well as a wedding). For one, the tailored men’s suits under Uniform Experiment as seen above are fitted to the Japanese man, who tends to run slightly shorter than the Western world. I happen to fit into this height well and hope that one of their suits will end up in my luggage because of their quality finish and their Japanese fit. Wools in the SOHPNET suits run from teflon treated INVISTA wool to the Italian super wools which offer a variety of environmental finishes (some offer water resistance while others stop those wrinkles). SOPHNET has something for everyman.

A book that is sure to excite our friend MW, The Brooklyn Navy Yard is the first monograph from photographer John Bartlestone. Bartlestone has been photographing the Navy Yard, New York’s largest and oldest industrial facility, since 1994. The photographer focuses on elements of the areas past, the spectre of WWII, and a quite look at the environment. Complimented by a historical essay from Thomas Flagg, the book is forthcoming from powerHouse.

Ateliers Ruby for Martin Margiela Scarf

Something new from the Ateliers Ruby group. Working with Martin Margiela they have developed a new scarf for the masses (well, maybe a few hundred), “Jerome Coste wanted to venture into the world of the off-beat and re-interpretation, which are the founding principles of Masion Martin Margiela. This is Les Ateliers Ruby Bandit twill silk scarf with a hand rolled hem. The print is a black and white ‘Meudon White’ paint effect to reflect the painting of the helmet in the same collection and also features a few personal touches from the Margiela team. ” (oki-ni)

Arne & Carlos V-Neck Pullover Sweater

arne carlos v neck sweater 00 Arne & Carlos V Neck Pullover Sweater

This is a bright one but why not. Made from Peruvian Pima cotton, this v-neck pullover sweater is a “summer knit” that is very thin and feels incredibly soft to touch (I love pima cotton t-shirts). The brigh turq. color with that Nordic pattern is a great intermediary piece for covering up when it gets brisk. (tres bien)

Daniele Alessandrini Autumn/Winter 2009 Chukka Boots

daniele alessandrini autumn 2009 boots Daniele Alessandrini Autumn/Winter 2009 Chukka Boots

While we love our suede desert boots as much as the next man, there’s times when they’re just impractical. And if you live in a country prone to random burts of rain, that time is all winter. These AW09 Daniele Alessandrini chukka boots are practical enough to wear in rain but the main feature that caught our eye was the magnificent shade of green they come in. We’ve seen green before, most recently in our Acne’s AW09 shoe preview, but this shade is a bit more refined than the others, giving the shoe a more mature look. Look for these to drop around July/August and we’ll let you know what stores they hit.

Maison Martin Margiela Weekend Bag

This is another pick from eluxury (can you tell we’ve been searching for deals on that site?). We’ve don’t usually re-feature items, but when something is at over half the price it was originally available for we can’t overlook it. Unfortunately, the slightly better white and brown leather versions have all sold out, but the black version isn’t to be sniffed at either. It’s still canvas and leather and it will still stand out in a crowd – just in a more subtle manner. Get it from Eluxury.
