Bottega Veneta Desert Boots

bottega veneta desert boots Bottega Veneta Desert Boots

Desert boots have been back for a minute now, so we can start getting a little fussy with the details. A deal breaker for us the toe – it has to be round. We usually avoid designer desert boots, but these Bottega Veneta desert boots have everything just right. The sole is the right height (it’s not the crepe sole we prefer, but we can live with that), it’s suede and most importantly, it’s got a rounded toe. (Matches)

Stack | Magazine Subscription Service

stack magazines Stack | Magazine Subscription Service

While we love magazines, stores can sometimes have an off-puttingly large selection of magazines to pick from. The general thought process behind this is that people will pick up any magazine with a snazzy cover and buy it on a whim. The reality is that they’ll pick the magazine they’ve heard of and ignore the rest.

Thankfully there’s a remedy at hand. Stack are a magazine subscription service that narrows the selection down to eight independent magazines and delivers one at random each month. It’s an ingenious way to become acquainted with a new magazine, and the well edited magazine list ensures that the quality remains high. If you ever feel bombarded walking into a Borders, this is the service for you.

01. AIR FOREST: Inflatable Pavilion Lights up the Night

“Mass Studies created this wonderful dream-inspired pavilion for Denver’s Dialog:City last summer. Known as the Air Forest, the pneumatic pavilion absorbs passing wind currents to stay inflated and provides shade while allowing sunlight to filter through, creating a vibrant public space. The 1,400 square meter structure is easily transported, sets up in a snap without any building materials, and at night it lights up in a beautiful display of luminous pillars.” (inhabitant)

04. Milan Fashion Week: Menswear Gets A Little Boyish

“Shrouded as they were in questions of economic turmoil, the spring/summer ‘10 Milan menswear shows had a mysterious aura surrounding them. This season’s collections were a melange of emotions, ranging from the minimalist to the avant-garde, but overall seemed to exhibit a return to playfulness.” (jcreport)

Yohji Yamamoto Spring 2010

We turn to Fashonisto for some thoughts on the Spring 2010 collection from Yohji Yamamoto. “Falling victim to the recession, Yamamoto opted out of a runway show this season, instead having a showroom presentation. Shown was a restrained selection of suiting pieces that conform to the designer’s signature oversize aesthetic. All black and no fun with the exception of the mohair knits, it is unfortunate that the collection lacks pieces to capture the imagination. Showcasing the classics is fine and dandy, but hopefully come fall 2010, Yamamoto will bounce back with a fresh creative perspective.”

Our big brother HighSnobiety shares our love for Japanese fashions. It’s no wonder that Junya Waranabe’s classic to form menswear line for Spring/Summer 2010 landed on their usually pages. “We like the collection a lot. Our favorites include the Mackintosh collaboration trench coats, as well as the blazer turned technical jackets. Only very few stronger colors are used in the line, while the rest of it sticks to classic colors and looks. Another thing that we appreciate a lot is that one can actually wear most of the line, something that you cannot say about many collections shown on the runway.”

I’ll say it again. “Italians do it better.” Check this BBQ grill from the people at Alessi. Italian made, the grill comes in a variety of configurations including my favorite, the hibachi for those days you want to eat around a grill and not just cook on it. (acquire)

WWD brings us runway looks for the Lanvin Spring/Summer 2010 ready-to-wear collection for men. “Whether or not Albert Elbaz and Lucas Ossendrijver set out to unsettle their viewers, their spring show under the red lights of the Salle Wagram ballroom certainly challenged traditional notions of masculine conformity. ‘It’s about individualism and the antiuniform’… ”
