Haversack Overcoat

haversack mac Haversack Overcoat

We’ve made this point several times but just to be clear we’ll make it again – we don’t approve of the styling on Matches. Another sale piece today and this one is a ridiculous saving. Down to £155 (from £525), it’s such a good deal we were tempted to keep it to ourselves. But because we’re good people (and because it’s not available in our size) we’ve decided to share it. Get it from Matches (be quick though).

02. Faber Poetry Covers

“as part of their 80th anniversary celebrations, faber & faber have released six collections of poems selected by great writers in collectible hardback versions. senior designer miriam rosenbloom commissioned some exciting illustrators and printmakers to create the cover designs and i think the series as a whole is really stunning. much like the penguin classics that were a big hit last year…” (designsponge)

“In our national mythology, we’re a country of gunslingers and frontiersmen. We like steaks big, cars loud and drinks strong. So whenever a cowboy saddled up to the bar in an old Western his order was a given: “Whiskey. And leave the bottle.” But times change and so do tastes…” (wsjmag)

Lee Japan 2009 Leather Sandals

lee japan sandals 000 Lee Japan 2009 Leather Sandals

The recent May and June issues of Japanese fashion magazine Men’s Non-No have to be the best of 2009. The range of products showcased in Non-No’s pages have been amazing. The editorials, product, and styling are above and beyond what we normally expect from these guys. One of our favorite features in the June 2009 issue is a nice look at Lee Japan 2009 sandal line. These sandals are a little bit of everything. The black and brown are classic; simple and smooth and made for just about anyone. But if you feel like stepping up and out try on a pair of the wine colored bad boys. Unfortunately to get a pair you may have take a detour to Japan. (cw)

The Fire edition comes in a special Vesuvius Orange metallic paint, the Ice edition in Alaska white, both offset by Santorini black accents.” Expect to pay around $95,000 for the Defenders.

Pet Shop Boys Vinyl Box Set by Farrow

pet shop boys box set by farrow 00 Pet Shop Boys Vinyl Box Set by Farrow

I’m a sucker for a bad ass box set especially when it houses some vinyl rekkids. Creative Review comes through with what is arguably the box set of year to date from the Pet Shop Boys. “A collaboration between Farrow and the Pet Shop Boys, and produced by The Vinyl Factory, this version of the album sees its eleven tracks split over eleven separate super-heavyweight 200-gram vinyl records with exclusive b-side instrumentals, each in a coloured sleeve, all housed in a smoked, handmade Perspex case.” 200gram vinyl is about as good as it gets and is usually reserved for the jazz reissues. We’re sure it plays a role in the 490$US price point. Limited to 300 sets. #banger

The Handy Book of Artistic Printing

10 June 2009, 18.31 | Posted in Books & Magazines | No comments »

artisticprinting book front The Handy Book of Artistic Printing

The Handy Book of Artistic Printing covers an oft forgotten period of design history. In the 19th-Century engravers, printers, and the like struck out against the traditional design and presented intricate boarders, corner embellishments, and quirky typefaces. Advertisers jumped at the new style, which became known as Artistic. As quickly as the style was adopted, it just as abruptly fell out of favor. The authors of The Handy Book of Artistic Printing assess the origins of the look in the British Aesthetic Movement and provide firm analysis of key features.

Out now from Princeton Architectural Press.
