Stansfield Cotton Canvas Blazer

08 June 2009, 10.30 | Posted in Fashion | No comments »

stansfield blazer 02 540x359 Stansfield Cotton Canvas Blazer

Now that Stansfield’s SS09 collection has dropped at Selectism supporter Daniel Jenkins (who handily reminded everyone via his twitter) we can take a closer look at a few pieces.  While the whole collection is dope – we featured the reversible jacket the other day – this cotton canvas blazer caught our eye.

Modelled by Jenkins himself, this cotton canvas blazer have some great touches to it, including a shawl collar and a contrast trim. The colour means it’ll go well with some navy chinos if you wanted to wear it in summer, in winter you could easily work it into a Junya Watanabe-esque look. (DanielJenkins)

zuriick ake sneakers 00 Zuriick Ake Slip On Sneakers

My favorite pair of slip-on sneakers at the moment come from Zuriick with their Ake model. The green vulcanized sole against the black canvas upper is simply on point and pricepoint is pretty damn good too. A great look for the Summer. Available now from Need Supply Co. for 55$US. Also available in yellow.

dior homme dh1 00 Dior Homme DH1 Sport Duffle Bag

Dior Homme busts out the luxury in a sporty tote bag with their DH1 offering. We’ll start out by saying it will not come in at the same price as the duffle you can pick up at your sports store, but you’re also buying Dior Homme here. The price will not be the same. What you do walk away with is a finely made duffle with gorgeous zippers and a fine black finish. (love)

fujoshi selectism Selectism | Around the Web

01. Everybody’s Fujoshi Girlfriend (above)

Fujoshi kanojo 腐女子 (”Fujoshi girlfriend”) is a new movie based on a blog by “Pentabu” that rode the original post-moe fujoshi boom to bestselling book Selectism | Around the Web status a few years ago. (Pentabu is currently blogging part 2.) I don’t have anything in particular to say about the movie itself, but the way it is being marketed is an excellent example of how the media misunderstands — or at least misrepresents — fujoshi.” (neojapanisme)

02. Museum of Soviet Arcade Machines

Who knew we had some amazing machines being built in the Eastern Bloc. (coudal>15kop)

03. Daniel’s Daily Monster

This is great “Every school day since May 7th I’ve been drawing a little Monster Card for my son Daniel’s lunchbox. Not totally sure why I started this, but he enjoyed the first one, and it’s become a ritual. Every morning when making his lunch, I give myself 5 minutes to draw a monster on paper from one of those memo pad things, give it a name and quickly photograph it with the iPhone.” (hicks>danielsmonster)

04. Sonic Youth: ‘Radiohead made other musicians look bad’

“Cult band also talk about their controversial record on Starbucks label…Sonic Youth’s Kim Gordon has claimed that Radiohead showed up smaller, poorer bands with the release of 2007’s ‘In Rainbows’, calling their release plan a ‘marketing ploy’.” (NME)

05. The Idea of a Tree

The Idea of a Tree, by Viennese designers Mischer’Traxler, is a machine that makes benches, containers and lamp shades, by drawing thread through a tank of dye, followed by a tank of resin, then wrapping it around a mould that’s rotated by a solar-powered motor.” (ianclaridge)

NYT | Michael Bastian: That Thing He Does

michael bastian nyt NYT | Michael Bastian: That Thing He Does

NYT has a feature on Michael Bastian that’s worth a reading. “As can be seen from the gentlemanly elegance of his quarters, Mr. Bastian is old-school. In his world, men are still from Mars. Or at least Dartmouth. And it seems he has a point. How else to explain his dark-horse rise as a men’s wear designer? … Mr. Bastian has found surprising success with an agenda so modest it almost seems radical: to give men slimmed-down, spiffed-up versions of the all-American clothes they have long loved.”

The latest from Wyler Geneve, the Tourbillon WT3,  is a true banger. “It is the result of two years of development backed by decades of experience in laser technology. Although the production method for this fragile material is a closely guarded secret, Wyler Genève can reveal that no less than 11 consecutive operations and treatments are required to transform a solid and irregular sheet of silicium, by layer depositions, coloration by precious material etc., into very precise components within tolerances of one hundredth of a millimeter.”  Available in black PVD or 18kt white gold. (timezone)

Noodle Shoes Sampan Rig

noodles shoes sampan rig 00 Noodle Shoes Sampan Rig

You have to give it to the shoe upstart brand, Noodles, for doing and describing things as they do. Their brand’s credo “Cheap, tasty and useful. Just like noodles!” They seem to be right on the money with their Sampan Rig model of boat inspired sneakers which are simple and to the point. Now, they make no secret the fact that their shoes are produced in China. As they mentioned, “they’re proud of it… the chinese have always been best when it comes to noodles.”
