10 most influential magazine deisgners 00 The 10 Influential Creators for Magazine Design

We’re stepping back into the Rizzoli NYC catalog to highlight one of our favorite books from very early 2008 which was not available on the US market. The 10 Influential Creators for Magazine Design written by Yasushi Fujimoto is finally being issued this month in the USA, asks the questions, “What is magazine design? What are magazine designers and art directors thinking, and in which directions are they heading? Armed with those simple questions, the author visited ten prominent magazine art directors who have been influential in the world of magazine design: Christophe Brunnquell (Purple), Work In Progress (Self Service), Yorgo Tloupas (Crash and Intersection), Jop Van Bennekom (Re-Magazine and Fantastic Man), M/M (Vogue Paris), David Carson (Ray-Gun).”

Following on from our preview of the Max Vadukul-directed AW09 video, we have a look at Coming Soon’s Autumn/Winter 2009 collection. The styling in this collection isn’t really to our tastes – having more than a hint of overstyled hipster hobo about it – but certain indivdual pieces really caught our eye. The jumper on the far left is a standout whilst the shawl collar coat is another great piece. Just avoid it if you’re vertically challenged as it’ll make you look incredibly stumpy.

Take a look at the rest of the collection after the jump.

wallpaper chinese magazines Wallpaper* | New Generation of Chinese Magazines

As far as foreign magazines go, Japanese magazines are the most fawned upon. Whether it’s the details obsessed cooing over Free & Easy or the fashion forward loving Men’s Non-No, it’s pretty safe to say that everyone’s well acquainted with Japanese magazines. If you’ve ever wanted to expand your foreign magazine reading habits beyond one country in the Orient, Wallpaper* have a great set of interviews with the editors of several groundbreaking Chinese magazines. The main cornerstone of the feature is that as consumerism has risen in China, so has the desire for information and these magazines fill that void. Read the full set of interviews at Wallpaper.

Check after the jump for spreads from each of the featured magazines.

paul smith linen blazer 01 Paul Smith Jeans Linen Blazer

When it comes to lightweight summer blazers, we usually stick to the likes of Garbstore and Engineered Garments. But Paul Smith’s ‘Jeans’ collection are steadily releasing several solid jacket options that’d fit into any workwear inspired wardrobe. This jacket does have the dreaded three buttons that everyone advises against, but we say just rock it with confidence and you’ll get away with it. Another point to note is that, like yesterdays Journal Standard jacket, the buttons contrast nicely. Get this from Paul Smith.

Check after the hop, skip and jump for detailed shots.
