Raf Simons “Spoiler” Loafer

Something about this shoe is killing me in a good way right now. The “spoiler” loafer from Raf Simons’ current Spring/Summer 2009 collection clearly takes it name from the auto accessory that the shoe resembles. We’ve seen it in the Seven store online but Jak & Jil brings our first view of it in the public realm – Paris we can only assume. #woah.

Tate Britain’s newer acquisitions are presented in Classified: Contemporary Art. Included are works by Jake and Dinos Champman and Damien Hirst. Hirst’s Pharmacy (1992) has been installed for the first time, allowing visitors a great chance to become immersed fully in one of the star artist’s imagined spaces. The exhibition runs at Tate Britain until August 23, 2009. In total, the exhibition explores how artists order their world. Commentary and slide show at the Guardian.

Martin Margiela Knitwear

margiela knits 00 Martin Margiela Knitwear

Simplicity is what I love in knitwear. Martin Margiela does it right with two ribbed knits – one with your traditional crew neck and the second with a vneck style shawl finish. I’m pulling for the crew neck with leather elbow patches in blue. It’s as basic as it gets but produced with 100% of the finest wool. Well done. Both are available now from oki-ni.

Great photos continue to flow in from the runway shows. The Burberry Prorsum for Spring/Summer 2010 is hitting it right on by continuing to hit the mark in traditional menswear. For Spring, the menswear side of Burberry looks to bringing more of a contemporary spin to their wears with knits wear and jackets that are cut for a more modern man. As Christopher Bailey, Burberry’s Cretive Director puts it, “British town and country under British rain and sun.”

Personal Branding | Selling Michael Owen

owen brand front Personal Branding | Selling Michael Owen

What do you do when your team is relegated? Your health questioned? Your career in the balance? In Micheal Owen’s case, you remind potential clubs of your “brand.” A few weeks ago his handlers sent out a 32-page brochure outlining health, skills, and most importantly brand values. Creative Review posted a few images today, which are in total a bit sad. Perhaps though, a solid indication of where one must go 10 years after hitting the lime light and with the potential of a few decent years left.

Hull seems to be calling though, so all is not lost Mr. Owen.

More pages from the brochure follow.

Woolrich Woolen Mills drives deeper into the American way with a focus on California’s surf heritage for their Spring/Summer 2010 collection. ”The Surfing sub culture embraced classic California clothing brands that  were originally designed for outdoor sports like camping and hiking. Some of the California brands were intended for Surfers themselves when they were off [their] boards…The key piece of the collection is the Carlsbad Jacket, inspired by vintage outdoor jackets of the 1960’s. The fabric is a water resistant durable cotton poly poplin that was considered the best fabric for the outdoors.”

Globe Trotter ‘The 1897′

globe trotter 1897 01 Globe Trotter The 1897

‘Timeless’ has turned into something of a buzzword these days, but it does describe Globe Trotters approach to design in a nutshell. They use an archive liberty print as the inside lining on these ones and they’re called the 1897 because that’s when Globe Trotter was established. More importantly, they’d match any number of outfits and work as a great conversation starter if you were heading to a fashion week or tradeshow.

Take a look at the lining after the hop, skip and jump.

Raf Simons for Fred Perry Polo Shirt

raf simons fred perry polo Raf Simons for Fred Perry Polo Shirt

We’ve featured this before but now it’s on sale we had to bring it to your attention again. We love it when the price comes down just enough on an item to render it affordable. That’s the case with this Raf Simons for Fred Perry polo shirt, reduced to £70. It’s not a huge saving from the original price of £110, but it brings it well under the £100 mark – a mental barrier for a lot of people. (Browns)
