Our recent visit to the Ace NYC proved no different—the property embraces a deep history of art, music and design that speaks to New York originality. The Ace perspective on NYC style even shows up in their staff uniforms, compiled from iconic New York staples and thoughtful designer collaborations.

Isaac Reina for Limoland Spring/Summer 2010 Wallet

selectism - limoland-isaac-reina-spring-2010-wallet

Here’s another piece from Limoland’s upcoming SS10 collection. The collaboration with Isaac Reina is a relatively new one compared to the other collabs, but it’s already the most distinctive. We’ve spoke (or should we say typed) at length about Limoland’s love of loud colours but it works when restricted to a piece this small. We feel it’d work best with a subdued outfit, pair it with too many colours and you’d run the risk of looking like the ‘trying-too-hard-to-be-quirky’ guy.

Ann Demeulemeester card holder

selectism - ann-demeulemeester-card-holder

We’ve been saying this but we’ll say it again – we’re all about the card holders. A nice small wallet is good, but due to the fact that we only carry cards nowadays, we’re losing our use for them. With a card holder just put all your cards in there and you’re good to go. It slims down the pocket and, more importantly, will help you avoid that wallet fade in your denim. Price-wise, it’s a bit lower than you’d expect for an Ann D piece – but it’s still a long way from cheap. (The Corner)

Drawings on Site: Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen

31 July 2009, 13.18 | Posted in Art | No comments »

curated mag - Drawings on Site: Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen

Currently on view at Houston’s Menil Collection, Drawings on Site brings together a selection of drawings from Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen. The two artists share sketches for proposed public monuments from the last 30 years. Oldenburg, an innovator in the American Pop Art movement, proposed many public works based on familiar objects. In part, his ideas were challenges to traditional models of sculpture. Oldenburg was joined by Coosje van Bruggen in 1976. Together they would propose a number of sculptures, some unfeasible. In the pitches, Oldenburg developed new drawing techniques that merged the spontaneous with a stylization of architectural drawing.

Drawings on Site is up to October 11, 2009. Full information from Menil. (via Curated).
