Black+Blum Reading Light

23 July 2009, 10.30 | Posted in Design | No comments »

selectism - black-blum-reading-light

As much as we love our functional designs, we do enjoy a quirky piece from time to time. Take this reading light for instance. Is it practical? no. Is it functional? not really. But it is fun. It’s perfect as an office talking point, especially if you’re a PR firm who has to wow us gormless bloggers and press folk. It’s also relatively cheap, coming in at £31.25. (Hidden Art)

Selectism - +KN

01. Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder

“Lamborghini have no problem with being a high performance car maker in an eco-conscious world; they point out, not unreasonably, that their slender production volume and the ‘occasional use’ quality of their cars means their overall emissions are relatively low.” (wallpaper*)

02. Mission Bicycle Store by Grayscaled Design

“San Francisco design collective Grayscaled have designed the interior of a store in San Francisco, California, that sells custom, fixed-gear bicycles. Called Mission Bicycle store, the project involved giving physical presence to a brand previously only available online.” (dezeen)

03. The Gap: Fitted Two-Pocket Shirt

“it’s one of my favorite shirts right now. Just going into the GAP with its dated interiors and droky sales people through me back to my high school days. But they still got it … and these fitted pocket shirts are the evidence.” (batxerfinley)

04. The Desktop Wallpaper Project featuring Phil Kiel (above)

“The Volkswagen Golf is the worlds third best-selling car with more than 25 million sold. I have always been interested by how objects and technology change over a long period of time, and this can especially be seen in the different models of the Golf.” (+kn)

Selectism - Capsule NY | Mjolk Footwear for Spring 2010

Lars Stoten gave us a quick preview of the Mjolk Footwear collection for Spring 2010. The footwear is made in Italy and required pulling some craftsman out of retirement to accomplish (more on that later). The finished product is clearly some of the most refined looks we viewed during (capsule) NY. The burgundy wine finished leather oxfords shine strong on display or on your feet.

Selectism - Capsule NY | Buckler Swim Trunks for Spring 2010

Buckler gave us a sneak peek at their line of swim trunks for Spring 2010 during (capsule) NY . Not to be confused as men’s undergarments, these shorts take the same old style and flip it adding smooth undertones and serious style. But if thats a little too revealing Buckler also has board short with just as much bite. – cw
