Selectism - Capsule NY | Shades of Greige Bags for Spring 2010

Here’s a stack of bags seen at Shades of Greige during (capsule) NY. It’s a stash (really) with a variety of colors and sizes available in day, weekender, and plan totes. Nautical colors are mixed in well with greys. Look for them coming for Spring 2010.

Limoland for Yoshida Porter Spring/Summer 2010 Boston Bag

Here’s an exclusive look at some new Limoland/Yoshida Porter boston bags for SS10. We quite liked Limoland’s philosophy of only collaborating with the best within their chosen fields, but the colours used were a little garish for our tastes. That’s why we’re such big fans of this beige boston bag. It’s still unique enough to stand out of the bag crowd, but it does it in a far more subtle manner.

For fans of the old colours though, there’s a better-than-you-think-it’d-be yellow version after the leap.

Loake ‘Banks’ Brogue Boot

File this under ‘I’ll wear it later’. We wouldn’t blame you if you thought ‘why the hell are you guys posting up boots now?’ It is the middle of July after all. But we ask that you think ahead. A wise man once said that ‘planning your wardrobe months in advance never a dull man makes’. At least, that’s how we think the saying went.

We’ve got a thing for brogue boots at the moment and we’re especially partial to ones that look like they’ll hold up in rainy weather. These Loake ‘Banks’ boots come in an antique leather – similar to what Our Legacy used for their AW09 footwear line. The price is also affordable, coming at £135, and seeing as the site isn’t overrun with cool kids – although it will be soon – they’ve got plenty of sizes left. (Edwards of Manchester)

Selectism Feature | Inside Billykirk’s Studio

22 July 2009, 10.30 | Posted in interview | 1 comment »

selectism - inthestudio-billykirk-4

We haven’t updated the features section in a hot minute – so this feature may have gone over your heads. We recently visited Selectism columnists Billykirk’s studio and took a pretty in-depth photographic tour of the place.

Since 1999, brothers Chris and Kirk Bray have been producing handmade leather goods under the name Billykirk. The name comes from their father’s nickname for Kirk (William Kirk Bray), and well before they ever hit upon leather was the moniker for their dream company. The move to leather came from a fruitful trip to the thrift store. There Chris picked up a leather watch strap. And, in that object, a firm idea was born.

Selectism - Nyorai

01. Camping Essentials by Cold Splinters

“I get my daily fix for all things outdoors from one of my favorites,Cold Splinters and the site’s author Jeffrey Thrope was kind enough to put together a special round-up of his ten favorite camping / hiking / outdoor items, exclusively for ACL. Check out his picks and thoughts below.” (acl)

02. Nyorai

“Nyorai is the Japanese pronunciation of rúlái 如来, which is in turn the Chinese translation of tathāgata. The etymology of the original term is unclear, but in the context of the Mahayana Buddhism that swept China and later Japan, it refers to either the original Buddha or another who, like him, made a mercy mission to our world to spread truth and light” (neojaponisme)

03. Designed for Smuggling

“From today’s Fresh Air is a profile of the Tobacco Underground, an investigation by The Center for Public Integrity about how money from cigarette smuggling is sometimes used to fund terrorism. Of note is Jin Ling, a smuggled-only brand “virtually unknown to the authorities three years ago,” (core77)

04. Educational Architecture

“To start this week’s Round Up, we bring you previously featured educational architecture from Spain, Portugal, France, and Slovenia. Enjoy!” (archdaily)

selectism - Capsule NY | Yuketen Bags & Accessories Spring 2010

Of the accessories and bags shown by Yuketen for Spring 2010, their take on the traditional canoeing satchel is most impressive. Made in America, and scaled down for more urbane pursuits, the bag is striking in both color and detail. These pieces are joined by some handsome totes and a rucksack.

Selectism - 3sixteen Footwear Spring 2010

We took a walk over to visit the guys at 3sixteen who kindly gave us a preview of their collection of footwear for Spring 2010. The line has clearly expanded to include a variety of new models – all of which are being produced by the handmade shoemakers at Quoddy. The Grizzly boot is drawing some attention at the moment with its crepe rubber sole.
