nano universe deck shoe 00 Nano Universe 2 Strap Deck Shoe

Risk in fashion is needed and for that reason we are not mad at Nano Universe for working this double velcro strap closure into their suede deck shoe offering. We do not expect them to work for everyone but we’re willing to bet that some will find them interesting. The 2-Strap comes in a variety of colors. (zozo)

Briefing for BEAMS+ Military Green Series Bags

briefing beamsplus bags 00 Briefing for BEAMS+ Military Green Series Bags

Following up on a successful first run of bags with Briefing, BEAMS+ comes back with a new military green series of collaborative day bags and briefs. The previous collection which celebrated BEAMS+ 10th anniversary sold out quickly. We can only expect the same from this collection. Our favorite, the 3 Way Bag, which converts between brief, shoulder, and backpack is made from high grade fabrics which are military spec’d to protect the finer instruments of combat. We assume this means we can leave our sunglasses and cameras in those front enclosures without too much worry.

More looks at the Briefing for BEAMS+ Military Green Series Bags after the jump.

Malin + Goetz has opened the doors on their third boutique and their second in New York City. The Upper West Side digs for the new Malin + Goetz space misex “neoclassical walnut panels salvaged from a demolished Long Island mansion” against “clinical white counters” as seen in their Chelsea store. “The store stands on the corner of Amsterdam Avenue and 82nd Street, which is known locally as ‘le gran esquina’ (the big corner).  As this space was previously occupied by a Puerto Rican barbershop, Malin+Goetz have retained the original barbershop sign, in tribute to the location’s heritage.” (wallpaper*)

Thonet for Muji

We’ve mentioned the collaborative project between Thonet and Muji before, but now that it is officially rolling it is worth revisiting both concept and product. Working with Muji, Thonet (an iconic German Furniture company) aims to bring affordable versions of classic designs to the market. Design within reach? Sorry.

Among the initial offerings are new versions of the famed bentwood chair and table, re-imagined by James Irvine, and a tubular steel desk designed by Konstantine Grcic. The chair, table, and desk all update the original forms without losing the integrity of the base idea. (via Retro to Go)

Check out the tubular steel desk after the jump.

The Architecture of America’s Team

If the new Yankee Stadium is about preserving and honoring heritage, the Dallas Cowboys new playing field is about a different sort of tradition – doing everything bigger in Texas. As owner Jerry Jones puts it, the stadium is about the “wow factor.” It’s three times the size of the teams former home, and equipped with some serious bells and whistles, including a massive 20 yard line to 20 yard line screen and handsomely appointed club area. The New York Times has a full report on Jones and his new baby today. Worth reading, as the article contextualizes the structure against other newly built sporting venues.

Alexander McQueen Spring/Summer 2010 Brogues

alexander mcqueen spring 2010 brogues Alexander McQueen Spring/Summer 2010 Brogues

So here it is, the last of the Alexander McQueen SS10 previews. At a time like this we’d usually say something like ‘we’d like to end on a high note’, but the collection was so strong that were wasn’t a high note, just a consistent stream of dopeness.

Off-white shoes are gaining popularity lately and, judging from these gorgeous brogues, that looks set to continue next year. There’s several great things about these shoes but we especially like the slimness of the contrast leather sole. We love a chunky sole as much as the next man, but they’re pure hell to wear in hot weather.

Cold Method Autumn/Winter 2009

cold method autumn 2009 01 Cold Method Autumn/Winter 2009

Cold Method came out with their ‘9 Aesthetics of a man’s wardrobe’ campaign, creating a capsule wardrobe for their vision of a stylish man.  Their AW09 collection continues that stripped down focus, concentrating on a the cornerstones of a wardrobe.

There’s leather jackets, pea coats (which look like they’ll be making a return after blowing a little too quickly last year) and blazers amongst the outerwear, with our favourite being the dark green leather jacket. The knitwear is the strongest part of the collection, with cable knit sweaters and chunky shawl neck cardies making a welcome return. Take a gander at the rest of the collection after the jump.

Maison Martin Margiela Cross Neck Sweater

martin margiela sweater Maison Martin Margiela Cross Neck Sweater

It’s great when colour obsessions roll over from year to year. We were really into the autumnal deep red/wine that started coming back in fashion last year and whaddya know, we’re still into it this year. We thought we’d take our love for the colour to the next level with this triple M (as we call him, he’s an old mate) sweater.

We’re quite into the cross neck design – they’ll provide respite from all those shawl neck sweaters you bought last year. Not that we don’t still love the shawl, it’s just nice to switch it up sometimes.  (Browns)
