dover street market menswear fall 2009 00 Dover Street Market Menswear Collection Debuts

London’s Dover Street Market has announced their inaugural menswear collection for Autumn 2009. “Comprising a well-edited collection of menswear separates, the style of this collection embodies the DSM spirit: relaxed, accessible and discreetly irreverent.” Contrasting top-stitch details match jackets and trousers while shirts display the familiar DSM logos as stencil prints or badges. There is a variety of fashions to examine in this collection. Browse a bit. The Dover Street Market Menswear collection launches on July 18th.

One of the most innovative furniture makers of at the turn of the 20th-Century, Charles Rohlfs was praised around the world for his mixing of styles. Artistic Furniture of Charles Rohlfs is a new book detailing his career and complementing an exhibition of the same name open now at the Milwaukee Art Museum. The publication brings together major works and lesser known objects, and also gives new insight into the influence of Rohlfs wife, Anna Katherine Greene (a mystery novelist). Written by Joseph Cunningham, with introduction by Sarah Fayen (an ace gal).

Alexander McQueen Spring/Summer 2010 Sandals

alexander mcqueen spring 2010 sandals 01 Alexander McQueen Spring/Summer 2010 Sandals

Sandals are still are a love/hate item. While this writer wouldn’t personally wear them (no one needs to see my mangled excuses for toes) we wouldn’t begrudge anyone else if they donned a pair and wore them right. Especially if they’re as nice as these sandals. The gladiator style has been around for a good while now but these ones look pretty special. The only downside is that the design on the sole will be covered by the wearer’s feet.

Take a look after that leap to see another pair of sandals.

Here’s a look at more of Dunderdon’s AW09 collection. If you’re a lover of chambray, flannel and shawl collar cardigans then you’re in luck – there’s plenty of all three in this collection. There’s also some great cable knit crewnecks, sweatshirts and the neverending trend (check shirts) also make an appearance.

You know what you’ve gotta do, go ahead and take a leap to see the rest of the collection.

Folk Beige Button Up Cardigan

folk button cardigan Folk Beige Button Up Cardigan

If you know this site, you’ll know we love Folk. As a brand they tend to ‘relate to our everyday lives’ as some clothing geeks would say. The navy version of this has been posted before, but we thought we’d bring attention to this beige colourway. As much as we love the navy version, sometimes you need a bit of variety in your wardrobe – this cardi provides just that. It’ll also make for a great layering piece come Autumn. (Oki-Ni)

01. Dash Snow, New York Artist, Dies at 27

“Dash Snow, a promising young New York artist, died Monday night at Layfayette House, a hotel in Lower Manhattan. He was 27 and lived in Manhattan. His death was confirmed by his grandmother, the art collector and philanthropist Christophe de Menil, who said that Mr. Snow had died of a drug overdose.” (nyt)

02. Rufus Wainwright Debuts Opera, Beard

“Even though Rufus Wainwright’s chased some muses that’ve pulled him off my playlist since the early triumphs of his debut through Want One (and especiallyPoses), I can’t help but love him for being a slave to that restless creative spirit, unabashedly crashing headlong into limitations.” Watched him on Jonathan Ross this week talking about some crazy times. (stereogum)

03. New “photographic fabric” Material

“Researchers at MIT have developed an unusual fabric made from light-sensitive fibers woven into layers. The resultant material essentially acts as a huge, flexible camera, able to capture images (albeit rudimentary ones) of whatever is near it.” (core77)

04. Rocking Motorcycle Is a Toy For Tough Kids (above)

“Otto Komei is three years old. Frequently he is sitting next to the window while watching the chopper gang on the other side of the street customizing and repairing their bikes. Just yesterday the one with the colored arm drove his chopper on the rear wheel down the street.” (notcot)

APRIL77 RECORDS Spring 2010 Preview

april77 records spring 2010 preview 00 APRIL77 RECORDS Spring 2010 Preview

Here’s a quick preview at the Spring 2010 April77 Records collection which revolves around four themes that sway from punk/rock roots, worker movements, to the prep of the Hamptons. “Although there are four main themes, the collection brings together a underline cohesiveness of edgy fashion meets french design made so popular by April77.” Expect denim, oiled cottons, slim trench coats and more. The trippy imagery of the previews works very well in low light with some dubstep.

More preview looks from the APRIL77 RECORDS Spring 2010 collection after the jump.

Freitag Limited Art Edition Bags

freitag limited art edition bags 000 Freitag Limited Art Edition Bags

Switzerland’s Freitag, known for tranforming used trucking tarps into wallets and messenger bags, takes a break for picking through their dirty piles and re-focuses towards art exhibition banners. “In cooperation with the Tate Modern London, the Mori Art Museum Tokyo, Palazzo Grassi Venice and the Museum of Contemporary Art L.A., FREITAG presents a unique limited art edition. Swapping truck tarps for exhibition banners from these world-leading modern art galleries, FREITAG has produced one-off versions of its F52 Miami Vice shopping bag. Motifs from Picasso to Japanese contemporary art make these bags genuine rarities.”

If interested, be sure to visit the Freitag website often in August. Each week, they will launch a new collection of their art bags online. The problem is we at this time do not know the schedule for which exhibition bags will drop.

More bags from the Freitag Limited Art Edition after the jump.

Master & Co High-top Sneakers

master co baseball sneaker 00 Master & Co High top Sneakers

Master & Co.’s take on the vintage Japanese baseball shoe may well be my favorite to date. The high-top sneaker features a beautiful molded rubber sole and top cap that wrap the shoe in your choice of three colors – military green, burgundy, or navy blue. The high-top canvas is free of almost all detail but the eyelets and two minor vents on the heel. The look comes appropriately from the the bottom up with Master & Co. (hymns)
