Buckstyle | ‘Of The Mountains’ Editorial

buckstyle editorial 01 Buckstyle | Of The Mountains Editorial

Buckstyle, which had a short lived run as a magazine and is now an online operation, recently posted up this editorial entitled ‘of the mountains’. As the name suggests, it’s workwear inspired – although not in a way that workwear enthusiasts would neccessarily approve of.

The editorial features pieces by the likes of Omar Kashoura (who’s been getting a fair amount of blog love lately), Nigel Cabourn and Oliver Spencer mixed in with high street brands like Topman and ASOS. One of Buck’s strengths was featuring outfits that their readers can conceivably afford without giving up food for three months and they display that in this editorial.

Take a look at the rest of it after the leap.

As regular readers will know, We love our parka’s here. They’re perfect for those annoying summer days when it starts out sunny and quickly turns into torrential downpours (as many Londoners will have experienced yesterday).

This Velour parka is made in one of our favourite materials (waxed cotton) and it’s also on sale (down to £65 from £130). What more could you ask for? (ASOS)

01. Summer Kitchen in Korvamäe by Urmas Muru and Peeter Pere

“Estonian architects Urmas Muru and Peeter Pere have designed a shelter for cooking outdoors at Korvamäe farm in Estonia. The shelter has a timber frame covered in sheet material, punctured by circular holes in two facades.” (dezeen)

02. Bag o’ Kitsch

“Kitschy: Pop Kulture Kouture and Vintage Treasures. A giant bag o’ kitsch will cost you $16.00, a small one for $8.00. Also, individual gems like bracelets, rings and classic oh-my-god the sister I never had would have worn these retro-awesome barettes. This stuff is hilarious and amazing.” (joshspear)

03. Andy Kem’s CNC’d Plywood Furniture

“Andy Kem’s killer CNC-cut plywood furniture, on display at Detroit’s Re:View Contemporary Gallery, stands out from the pack; the Breakplane coffee table won last year’s Design Quest Furniture Competition. Detroit-based Kem is currently seeking prospective manufacturers for both the table and chair…” (core77)

05. U2 Wreak Havoc With ‘Massive Carbon Footprint’ [with 360 Tour]

“Their CO2 emissions are the equivalent of the waste created by 6,500 average British or Irish people in an entire year, or equal to leaving a standard 100 watt lightbulb on for 159,000 years, and are much larger than the carbon footpring left by Madonna during her 2006 world tour when she produced 1,635 tonnes in air transport… The tour’s carbon footprint can also be measured in space terms, with their colossal emissions of up to 65,000 tonnes of CO2 enough to fly them on a return trip to the planet Mars.” (quietus)

Oliver Spencer Oli’s Jeans

oliver spencer oli jean 00 Oliver Spencer Olis Jeans

The magic words in denim seem to revolve around the following three: “japan,” “selvedge,” and “wash.” For some reason Oliver Spencer uses none of them to describe their new addition, the UK made, “Oli’s Jean.” “Oli’s jean” is a straight-fit, everyday jean that has been cold washed after production for a less rigid look and a more comfortable handle – they are of course made in England. You can even choose between a classic contrast stitch or a more subdued, tonal stitch.” I guess “raw” would be a fourth, but who’s counting at the moment.

Field Notes in Grass Satin Green

field notes in green Field Notes in Grass Satin Green

I did once say that real men rocked another special French paper company’s ledger, but while I am here in Europe for the next few week, I am carrying around the classic Field Notes 48 Page Memo Book. I do have it customized a bit with a fat Highsnobiety sticker on it in case someone cares to steal my thoughts. Things would of course be a bit cooler if I was rocking the Grass Satin Green Book – which is the third release in their series of seasonal color runs. Pick up your pack soon as only 300 3-packs have been produced. Arguably their best seasonal color yet. Beau’s got some as seen in the photo above.

NYT | Berlin Fashion Week Shows a Raw Energy

berlin fashion week1 NYT | Berlin Fashion Week Shows a Raw Energy

Suzy Menkes latest story for NYT and it’s EU counterpart the IHT had me paying attention when we checked into our hotel this morning in Barcelona (we’re in town to cover Brandery). Ms. Menkes look into Berlin Fashion Week and the return of Bread & Butter put focus on the possible diconnect between street fashion and high fashion in the Berlin. “Just as people tell you that all the best places to eat are part of Berlin’s subculture — hidden, under-the-radar places — so there is a frustrating feeling that what appears on the runway has little to do with the hard and funky club scene in the Bohemian Kreuzberg section.”

A must read for anyone interested in the Berlin fashion scene – one I am paying close attention to myself as I report from the city this month.

randolph eyewear 04 Randolph Engineering Sunglasses

It’s hard to find a classic sunglass line with heritage that has never ceased to produce their eyewear products in the USA. Randolph Engineering is one of the few. Based in Massachusetts (close to my heart), Randolph Engineering began as an actual engineering firm in the early 70’s but really began to get things going in 1982 when the they became a Department of Defense supplier. Since them Randolph Engineering continues to supply air forces in the United States and worldwide with their aviator eyewear. You’ll likely find them today in a variety of shops from the Saks Fifth Ave’s and Steven Alan to high end gaming and fishing shops like Orvis.

Events in Boston, London, Seattle, Philadelphia, and Berlin are celebrated in blue, mustard, red, and mandarin orange. Simply beautiful. (joshspear)
