The Moment | Runway Music Spring/Summer 2010

Selectism - The Moment | Runway Music Spring/Summer 2010

It may not be as comprehensive as the Agenda Inc. list from SS 09 but it works. “The Moment” highlights their favorite runway soundtracks from YSL to CdG. “Music is an essential source of inspiration for fashion, and designers are always eager to either promote new bands or make old favorites relevant once again. Straight after the recent spring 2010 men’s-wear shows, we compiled a list of the latest runway favorites.” I’ll still vote for the Rick Owens soundtrack. Can someone spot me the name of the tune?

Find the roundup list over on “The Moment.”

The Baracuta James Cycling Jacket

Selectism - The Baracuta ‘James’ Cycling Jacket

Add another onto your want list. The “James” Cycling Jacket fits the multifunction bill. It’s made for riders but clearly wearable as a day jacket in or out of the rain. It is fully waterproof and fully breathable and wins on the technical angle. I just wish it had a longer rain gator on the rear. The 5-point vented wing back which is unique to Baracuta ventilates the jacket keeping the flow. #want

Selectism - Johnnie Walker Blue Label by Bill Amberg Studio

I do not usually expect much when a liquor company develops a carryall but when you team up with Bill Amberg, things usually turn on excellent. The “Johnnie Walker Blue Label by Bill Amberg Studio” collection features three pieces including two compacts,”Overnighter” and “Traveller” for small items and the “Weekender”. ”The collection centres on a beautifully crafted limited-edition bag – the ‘Weekender’ … which is bold and masculine in design, capturing the contemporary desire for discreet style and practicality. This generous holdall is made of the finest quality leather, featuring a bespoke label with limited edition numbering and a removable carrier designed specifically to hold the bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue Label Blended Scotch Whisky which is included in the bag.” Look for the collection to drop this October. Selectism - FIRMA The Gropius Bag

Berlin based FIRMA celebrates the 90th anniversary of the Bauhaus movement with a convertible bag in honor of Walter Groupius. “The GROPIUS BAG, which is named after the founder of the art academy in  Weimar, is functional and aesthetically unique. By opening the side zippers, it can be increased to double or triple its original size. From a small laptop bag or briefcase it can quickly be  transformed into a weekender.”

The Groupius Bag is made from “herbal tanned and colored horse leather” and features Swiss made RIRI zippers (some of the best in the world). The Groupius Bag will be available worldwide as well as at the FIRMA shop in Berlin.

Inverallan Made to Measure Service

27 July 2009, 15.30 | Posted in Fashion | 2 comments »

Selectism - inverallan-knitwear-collection-01

Inverallan have been bubbling under the surface for a while now, due to their inclusion on Japanese sites like Arks. Quite frankly, I’m sure you’re bored with heritage stories by now, but rest assured that Inverallan know what they’re doing. But that’s not all we wanted to talk about. This post is about (as you may have guessed from the title) Inverallan’s made to measure service. They don’t call it that – it’s simply labelled order form on their site – but for all intensive purposes, that’s what it is.

Every Inverallan piece is made to order and takes six weeks to complete. The sweaters and cardigans cost £109 and £118 respectively (compared to £349 on Arks) and shipping ranges from £15 to £5. You’re allowed to choose the materials and colours and if you don’t like the choices laid out on the site, they’ll happily send you a sample of the different yarns they have. Then you can specify any changes to the knitwear you’d like – shawl neck collar, belt, whatever you can think of – and it’ll be added for £4 extra. So, at it’s most expensive, the entire process will cost you £137. They also make scarves and woolly hats for anyone who wants to get a head start on their winter accessories.

Take a look at some Inverallan pieces after the jump.
