Selectism - LA Window Designer Weighs In on Barneys Controversy

01. LA Window Designer Weighs In on Barneys Controversy (above)

“Our sister site, Racked NY, has been tracking the controversy surrounding a macabre window display at Barneys New York—one that depicted mannequins in Helmut Lang and A.L.C. dresses splayed out behind blood-spattered windows. Once Creative Director Simon Doonan got wind of the window (and the outrage surrounding it), it was promptly removed, but it turns out the display has something of a precedent right here in LA.” (racked)

02. Sean Denham and Renovo’s hi-tech wood frame bicycles

“You can’t get much greener than Portland-based Renovo Hardwood Bicycles’ R4 Pursuit, made from two CNC’d halves of wood bonded together lengthwise (yielding a hollow core).” (core77)

03. diy project: erik’s recycled wine bottle torch

“this clever outdoor diy idea comes from erik anderson of gerardot & co.- a creative branding and design agency in indianapolis. erik was kind enough to share a fantastic project that turns an everyday bottle into a modern backyard tiki torch. i love the way these torches look and am dying to find a backyard to use these in- too bad the closest thing we have is a 2×2 foot fire escape.” (designsponge)

04. Brandon Blommaert

“I can’t remember where I came across this guy, but Brandon Blommaert is a huge weirdo, and I mean that in the nicest way. The images above are from a series called eco_station, and feature handmade creatures placed into epic photos. The effect sort of reminds me of Wayne White’s paintings, but with creatures instead of text. There’s a behind-the-scenes look of him creating these creatures as well.” (+kn)
