Company of We Autumn/Winter 2009

Selectism - Company of We Autumn/Winter 2009

NY Mag believes that “Company of We Are Menswear’s Newest Design Darlings.” That headline caught us. It’s a fairly large statement from the NY metro staple. So when they’re people hit us up recently we though it would be proper for a look. ”Helmed by Jayzel Samonte (a writer) and Christopher Crawford (of Christopher Deane and Sophia Eugene), the line’s ultimate goal is to offer well-crafted clothes to guys who ‘aren’t about to drop $700 for a pair of shorts,’ as Crawford puts it. And the prices are more than reasonable for the structured blazers, soft knits, and graphic tees, with most clocking in under $100 (blazers being the most expensive at the $200 to $300 mark). The duo forged their alliance despite Samonte’s qualms about working with clothes.”  We call it recession friendly fashion.

Lineus Athletic Company

Selectism - Lineus Athletic Company

Mr. Yu at Cool Hunting pointed me at a Selectism friend Athletic Company from Marfa, Texas. The Lineus Athletic Company has been produces handmade leather sporting goods for a while. In fact Mr. Lineus  has no problem stress testing his goods inside a Texas penitentiary. “For the first medicine bag he made, he explains, ‘I gave it to the Oregon State Penitentiary in 1987 because they have a famous boxing program and I wanted to find out if it would last. I recently visited to check up on it and it looks great. If you want to find out if something will last forever, that’s a good test.’” Rugged and simply beautiful sport bags.

Selectism - The Craftsmanship of Moncler Maison

With little to no words to describe the work behind their high end Gamma lines, Moncler presents a nice visual look into the backrooms on their fashion house. Presented on their website under the Maison section, it gives a glimpse into the materials and clean rooms which make some of the world’s best outwear.

J.Lindeberg Autumn/Winter 2009

Selectism - J.Lindeberg Autumn/Winter 2009

Here’s a full look at the forthcoming J.Lindeberg collection for Autumn/Winter 2009. There is a magic word in the inspiration for this collection and it is Serge Gainsbourg. My discovery of the man and his music came from an old Parisan friend. Though I may not have understood a damn thing he was saying (I do not partake in French), his ability to capture listeners through sound is like none other. “Inspiration for J.Lindeberg’s AW09 collection came from a combination of Serge Gainsbourg, and Yves Klein.  It’s about quintessential French masculinity and an approach to life when you don’t save your best for special occasions but celebrate them every day.”

Type: A Visual History of Typefaces and Graphic Styles, Vol. 1

curated mag - Type: A Visual History of Typefaces and Graphic Styles, Vol. 1

The title says it all – Type takes readers through a series of fonts and graphic styles covering the years 1628 to 1900. Compiled by Alston W. Purvis, professor, and Jan Tholenaar, collector, the book proposes to trace the modern evolution of the printed letter. Given the source material, and the examples reprinted, one might suggest that the goal is achieved.

Available now from Taschen, where you can also take a full leaf through of Type. (via Curated).

Selectism - Globe-Trotter for Happy Socks

This is a pairing made in heaven. Globe-Trotter and Happy Socks are partners – not in the sock making business but the display world. Globe-Trotter has been named Happy Socks’ official display partner for the US market. Not a bad deal for Happy Socks who now have the sexiest luggage and display kits on the tradshow circuit.

Henrik Vibskov Checkered Cardigan

selectism - henrik-vibskov-checkered-cardigan-01

If we were a little lazy, we’d say that this cardigan is proof of Vibskov calming down. But, seeing as his latest collection was called ‘the solar donkey experiment’, we’re not so sure he has. In fact, we’re not sure a man who makes zig-zag harem trousers has the ability to calm down. Either way, this piece is one of the most wearable examples of Vibskov we’ve come across. (Farfetch)

Burberry Navy Packable Trench Coat

selectism - burberry-packable-trench

Don’t let anyone tell you Burberry isn’t ‘down wiv tha kidz’. They’ve taken the popular packable cagoule and upgraded it by a considerable level – now allowing you to pack-a-trench. The trench itself is what you’d expect from Burberry – classic tailoring, epaulettes and all that jazz – it’s the packability that kicks it up a notch. At £350 it’s relatively cheap for Burberry – key word being relatively. (Liberty)

Gram Footwear Spring/Summer 2010

selectism - Gram Footwear Spring/Summer 2010

Here is a look at the S/S 2010 footwear collection from Gram. The Swedish label’s spring footwear line draws inspiration from Sweden’s summer solstice. Gram offers four contrasting lines all with a unique interpretation of summer. While their goal is to ultimately stay and comfortable – the collection does offer a nice color palette with strong aesthetics. (via We are the Market).
