Rhythm Footwear for Dans La Vie Sneakers

Selectism - Rhythm Footwear for Dans La Vie Sneakers

Fabric print maker, Dans La Vie worked with Rhythm Footwear on a small collection of  sneakers based on the Rhythm Sandwich-lo model. The Dan La Vie prints are cut and molded to the trainer for a finish that stands on its own and accentuates your individuality. We’re told they are a Japan only release at the moment. Call your proxy for a hook into their launch on Aug 19 at Tokyo Hip Sters and Zozotown.

More looks at the Rhythm Footwear for Dans La Vie sneakers after the jump.

Factotum Duffle Bags

selectism - factotum-duffle-bags

Admitting the addiction is the first step to recovery, so we’re just gonna come out and say it. We’re obsessed with bags. Holdalls, backpacks, totes, even messenger bags – if it’s a bag and it looks purdy, we’ll be featuring it. That’s just how we roll. We really don’t have much to say about these bags – they look purdy so we featured them. It’s not rocket science. You know the drill for Japanese pieces; either get a proxy or book a flight. Alexander McQueen Flannel Trousers

If there’s one thing the team at SL could have more of, it’s trousers. With denim and chinos gathering all our attention, plain old trousers have been lost in the mix. The one thing we wanted for our trousers was heft. Our denim weighs a ton, so we like our trousers the same way. These Alexander McQueen trousers fit the bill. Like most McQueen pieces, you’ll need a few extra coins in the pocket to afford them – but that shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone. (Browns)

New Year, New Kit

selectism - New Year, New Kit

Last year, at the beginning of the Premier League season, we sang the praises of Saville Rogue. The scarf maker produces subtle cashmere pieces that allow the wearer to support ones team without being plastered with logos. They are wonderful, for sure, but this year we’re taking things back to basics.

Football kits are generally pretty unfashionable. For one, they are covered with the logos of some dubious companies (for example, who among us has ever tried Chang Beer? Also seems a bit odd that a team with a dire financial situation would promote a job site). Another slight against the shirts, the fashionable rarely wear newly devised technical fabrics. Other issues include looking as if you’ve just come off holiday at Butlins, looking like a child, and being forced to wear colors that just don’t suit you.

We say, who cares?!?! Football is football, and supporting ones team always in fashion. On that token, we’ve taken stock of a few new kits for the new season that take risks and/or actually look quite good (note: some don’t look good, sorry Man U fans). Included, of course, are the Arsenal away and third shirts (above). The sporty black and pink number from Everton also gets a nod. And, as Fulham has managed to do something they do about as frequently as Bobby Zamora scores, their new away shirt is featured too. A few oddities are thrown in for fun.

Note: Should the mood strike, shirts can be purchased at the respective team shops.

Head to the jump for more.

Men’s Flair | George Cleverley Workroom

17 August 2009, 13.30 | Posted in Shoes | No comments »

selectism - george-cleverely-workroom

While we like our fashiony fashion as much as the next man, we also appreciate the classics. So we had to show you the George Cleverley workroom tour that Men’s Flair recently did. Although they’re not as well known as Church’s and the like, Cleverely are the preferred shoe of the Row. They’re also one of the few who still make their shoes from start to finish in London.

But shoemaking involves dust and aprons, real physical exertion as the leather is stretched and nailed over a last – or a wooden block is whittled down. Both were going on at Cleverley when I visited, and the experience conjures up what traditional English workshops were like back in the days when Cleverley was founded.

selectism - Valet | 3 Questions for a Bespoke Shirt Tailor

Our friends at Valet have produced a tidbit pertaining to the ‘most deadly weapon’ in a man’s closet – The Button Down Shirt. Valet sits down with Carl Goldberg, custom NY tailor, to discuss the finer details and must-ask questions of a bespoke tailor. “Some customers want details that can’t be found off the rack and some just enjoy the experience. Mostly, it’s for the fit. I do have some real physical misfits, but those are rare. Today most of the guys just want slim fitting shirts. In my opinion, sometimes too slim.” Valet proves that every man should have a tailor and every man should make the most of it.

B Store ‘Bobby Deluxe’ White Shirt

selectism - b-store-polka-dot-shirt

We raved about this shirt when we previewed B-Store’s AW09 collection and we’re gonna rave about it again. In case you hadn’t noticed, raving about stuff is what we do.

If, like us, you’re a little bored of the check shirt, your probably thinking ‘what next?’. The answer to that question is simple – polka dots. We like things with a twist, so this plain white shirt with polka dot collar and cuffs is right up our alley. It won’t please everyone, but what does? (B Store)

The drill remains the same, detailed shots after the jump.

Duckling Brown Weaver Moccasin

Selectism - Duckling Brown Weaver Moccasin

A great take on the classic Wallabee comes to us via Oi Polloi. “The Duckling brown Weaver Moccasin boot is brought to Oipolloi by Japanese designer Hiroshi Takahashi’s High Bridge International company. Produced in Portugal, these shoes are rarely found outside of Japan. Based on the original, and most coveted Clarks Wallabee designs from the late 60’s (when they were still hand-made by Padmore & Barnes in Ireland) the attention to detail displayed throughout the Weaver Moccasin range is as you would expect from our Far Eastern friends… faultless.”

Marc By Marc Jacobs Menswear Shop in Melrose

Selectism - Marc By Marc Jacobs New Menswear Shop

Racked LA give coverage to the new Marc by Marc Jacobs Menswear Shop which opened in Melrose. “We finally made it over to the new Marc by Marc Jacobs men’s shop, which, as previously noted, has taken over the former Diabless space next door to the main shop. Staffers told us that the move was prompted by a desire for more breathing room, particularly to better show off the brand’s collection of low-priced “special items”. These offbeat goodies have taken pride of place in the center of the store, ranging in price from $1.50 condoms to $7 leather bracelets, $14 cashmere ankle socks to $28 rain boots and everything in between.”
