Acne Waxed Cotton Duffle Coat

10 August 2009, 15.30 | Posted in Fashion | 2 comments »

selectism - acne-duffel-coat-01

Some pieces just have it all. The only knock against duffles is that a) everyone will be wearing an awful River Island version in a few months and b) they can’t take that much rain. This Acne mixes our favourite part of the duffle (the toggles) and adds another SL favourite in waxed cotton. And to top it all off, it’s on sale in two different places. ASOS have the blue one at £127 whilst Oi Polloi have the red one at £105.

Detailed shots after that leap.

selectism - Wood Wood Spring/Summer 2010 Runway

Here we present to you WoodWood’s Spring/Summer 2010 runway preview from Copenhagen Fashion Week. Mixing American sport with vintage prep, the Danish brand pieced together some very classic styles. WoodWood seems to be going for a generally less saturated color palette; melding tertiary colors in rich tone. (via Wearethemarket).

Engineered Garments Denim Bedford Jacket

selectism - engineered-garments-denim-bedford-jacket-01

Don’t worry, we’re not gonna start reviewing EG’s entire collection. This is just a one-off post to let you know that this denim Bedford jacket has now reached silly prices, so if you were on the fence about getting it – now’s the time to hop off it. Only if you’re a small though. Engineered Garments are one of those brands that have gotten so much blog love that it’s started to bore people, so we won’t spent 1000 words talking about Daiki Suzuki’s favourite type of apple. If you like this piece (and are a small) buy it, if not, then don’t. (Start)

Freestyle Magazine

selectism - freestyle-magazine-05

This is why people tell you to never make assumptions. We mistakenly assumed that freestyle magazine was about extreme sports because the owners were constantly playing frisbee at the tradeshows we attended. How wrong we were.

Created by fashion photographer Jason McGlade, the magazine is about fashion photography, art and design and comes with a free frisbee – which would explain the constant frisbee playing.  The magazines main ‘USP’, as marketing types say, is the circular design which enables it to fit inside the frisbee it comes in. The frisbees are made by a different artist each issue and the first was created by Eley Kishimoto. The circular design could have been dismissed as gimmicky (we’ve seen enough gimmicks lately – We’re talking to you US Esquire) but it’s obvious that it’s a design they’ve had in mind since day one.

Take a look at some spreads after the leap.

Selectism - Esquire UK - September 2009

01. Martin Senyszak – Cassette Tape Anatomy

“Photographer Martin Senyszak of Edinburgh, Scotland analyzes the visual structure of the common cassette tape. His simple black and white images break down the tape into its component parts and propose a geometric perspective. Senyszak holds a BA in Visual Communications from Grays School of Art and has also won the Best New Blood award at the D&AD New Blood Exhibition in London.” (deftouch)

02. Living Chair Number 1 by Anders Huus

“The purpose of LC1 is to test the possibilities of bringing life to traditionally “dead” furniture. This opens up a wealth of possibilities for both functionality and the users experience of the furniture.” (mocoloco)

03. SEED Awards Recycled From Submission Shipping Materials

“This year the Atlanta chapter of AIGA received a record number of entries for their annual SEED Awards, and then rather than discarding all those submission shipping materials they decided to repurpose them into the awards themselves! The clever recycled trophies were created by laser-cutting cardboard into a film reel for the motion category, a mouse for the interactive category, and a book for the print category. The only costs involved were for the laser-cutting and silkscreening, and all the materials were assembled by hand. We applaud AIGA Atlanta’s ingenuity for recycling their readily available materials into environmentally-sound symbols of accomplishment.” (inhabitant)

04. Esquire UK – September 2009 (above)

“Last week i had the pleasure of attending the Somerset House where Esquire held a exhibition in which they invited 18 leading fashion designers to work with an artist or creative talent of their choosing, to co-create one-off bespoke suits that challenge the form of men’s suiting.” (text:bntl /img:agentbedhead)

Rick Owens Asymmetric Leather Jacket

Selectism - Rick Owens Asymmetric Leather Jacket

Here’s a pricey one. An asymmetrical leather jacket from Rick Owens. Sure, it could be a week’s salary but at least you’ll be the only one in town rocking it. “A staple of each Rick Owens collection, this season’s leather jacket is very simple. Made from washed leather that’s been vintage treated, the sleeves are long and can be made wider with zip detailing to be worn pushed up. The jacket fastens with an asymmetrical zip up to a funnel neck. There are two outer hip pockets and two zip fastening inner pockets…” (okini)
