Selectism - OntFront Spring/Summer 2010

“Tonight is the Knight” is not the most brilliant of working titles for a collection where metallic face paint is mixed in with riding gloves, but we’ll leave the narration to you on these looks from the OntFront Spring/Summer 2010 collection. “designer Liza Koifman and creative director Tomas Overtoom of Ontfront heralded the advent of their 2010 spring/summer collection…Like the black and white chess knights adorning the collection… will harness you with the graceful attire to lay siege to any imposing bulwark in your life.”

More looks from the OntFront Spring/Summer 2010 collection after the jump.

selectism - sail cloth bag

Finding interesting museum shop product (particularly out of history museums) is rather difficult. The National Maritime Museum in Greenwich, London, makes their stand with a collection of bags made from retired sail cloth. Each bag is unique, taking on the characteristics and faults of the used sail. Both a duffel and a hip bag are available from the museum shop. (via Retro to Go).

Check the hip bag after the jump.

Kolor Open Flagship Store in Tokyo

selectism - kolor-store-01

In Tokyo and stuck for things to do? Then take a trip to Kolor’s new flagship store, which opened last week. News of an opening rather than a closing always pleases us, so we were glad to see just how well Kolor’s store turned out to be. It’s a big store for a young brand and the furnishings perfectly compliment’s Kolor’s Aesthetic. If you’re around Tokyo at any point in the future, be sure to give this place a look.

ADDRESS: B1 , 5-6-10 Minami Aoyama, Minato-ku, Tokyo

There’s more pictures after that leap.

Selectism Feature | Albam

selectism - albam-feature-small-01

A while ago (six months to be exact) we caught up with Albam’s James Shaw. For various reasons, it’s taken a minute to get the piece done and dusted, but it’s here now and it’s a good insight to the workings behind Albam.

What can be said about Albam that hasn’t already been said before? For a company that only launched in 2006 they’ve already attracted more ink and screen space than any clothing company we can think of.

They’ve attracted workwear fanatics, club kids, fashionistas and regular blokes alike with their quality basics. In fact, it’s unfair to call them basics, so let’s call them cornerstones. To call them basic would be doing a disservice to clothes that form the cornerstone (see what we did there?) of every man’s wardrobe. You can have all the ‘statement’ pieces you like, but you need the clothes that Albam make.

Lanvin Jersey Cardigan/Jacket

06 August 2009, 10.30 | Posted in Fashion | 2 comments »

selectism - lanvin-jersey-jacket

What do you call a piece like this? If you’re Browns you call it a jersey jacket one second and a cardigan the next. Seeing as it’s basically a cardigan with lapels, we’re gonna stick with the hybrid of cardigan/jacket. We would do a mashup of the two words (Cardet?), but fashion journalists are already in love with that practice – we don’t want to encourage them.

Oh yeah, the piece. As you’d expect from jersey it’s very soft. Given it’s Lanvin, they’ve managed to up the softness levels from ‘occasional-rubbing-of-garment’ to ‘If-I-had-to-live-in-a-shed-for-a-month-to-wear-you-I’d-do-it’. In conclusion, it’s pretty desirable. (Browns)

Selectism - TREETOP OFFICE: Eat Your Heart Out, Cubicle Warrior

01. Panerai Manifattura Exhibition Hong Kong

“In Hong Kong as in Singapore, Officine Panerai showed off its manifattura or manufacture status to great fanfare with the Panerai Manifattura Collection Exhibition.” (luxuryinsider)

02. TREETOP OFFICE: Eat Your Heart Out, Cubicle Warrior (above)

“One look at this office nestled amid the treetops and you might contemplate how to change your life in order to have a workspace with such an incredible view. Peter Frazier, a customer experience consultant, decided after years of working at an office and gaining over 50 pounds that he needed to make a change in his life – so he built this incredible office in the woods. Set amongst the trees above Chuckanut Bay in Bellingham, Washington, his lofted cube serves as a workspace and guest room, and it has a green roof on top too.” (inhabitant)

03. Spec Furniture’s Simple Sleeper

“Having a sofa in the office is a great thing if you are on a killer deadline and end up staying in the office to later hours. Grabbing a couple hours sleep on the sofa and getting back to work can be handy, or simply crashing after you upload your project and are done. Having a sleeper sofa can be even better, but somehow feels inappropriate in the office.” (workalicious)

04. Hear Broken Social Scene Cover Joy Division’s “Love Will Tear Us Apart”

“When you think “Broken Social Scene covering Joy Division’s ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’,” you probably imagine something hazy and beautiful and waltz-y and tortured. And that’s exactly what the revamp– to be featured on the upcoming soundtrack to The Time Traveler’s Wife– sounds like.” (pitchfork)

Selectism - Rat Pack Wheels Come Up for Auction

Luxist points us at a great auto auction happening in Carmel, Cali this month. “On August 14 during London-based auction house Bonhams‘ annual Collectors’ Automobilia and Motorcars sale at the Quail Lodge Resort and Golf Club in Carmel, CA , classic cars owned by Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra will be among those going on the block. Martin’s ride is a 1962 Ghia L6.4 coupe (above), one of only 25 made by now sadly forgotten Italian coachbuilder Carrozzeria Ghia…”

Selectism - Q&A With Acne's Jonny Johansson

Hint Magazine’s Kay Barron catches up with Acne founder, Jonny Johansson. “Not long ago Acne was a relatively unknown skinny jeans company from Sweden. Now with 16 stores internationally, phenomenal collaborations with Lanvin and jeweler Michael Zobel, and an exceptional collection for fall ‘09, it’s ballooned into the brand that everyone is obsessed with. We caught up with founder Jonny Johansson as he vacationed with his family in Stockholm.”

Grenson Spring/Summer 2010 Preview

Selectism - Grenson Spring/Summer 2010 Preview

A quick look at the Spring/Summer 2010 collection from Grenson as seen at Compass in Vegas. As Jason told us back in June, “Out of all the classic shoe makers, Grenson have been making the most moves, collaborating with everyone from Rag & Bone to Albam (and there’s more collabs in the pipeline, check back here for news on that later). Sticklers for authenticity will be glad to know that they still make their shoes in Northampton to the same exacting standards of yesteryear – the same can’t be said for many of their competitors.” (photos: Jacob Krupnick)
