Amplified Stone Roses 20th Anniversary T-Shirts

Selectism - Amplified Stone Roses 20th Anniversary T-Shirts

Now, I am still unsure if these shirts are officially sanctioned by the rights holders for Stones Roses “materiale,” but I’m such of fan of the album “Stone Roses” that I must bring these to your attention. Amplified is producing this three shirt range of looks in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of their self-titled debut. The actual album is getting some serious vinyl re-issue/re-master/boxset/bonus treatment in the coming year, which is probably even cooler than the shirts. #waitingontheceaseanddesistsnow.

rogues gallery spring 2010 000 Rogues Gallery Spring/Summer 2010 Preview

More like a sneak shot, ACL puts photos of the forthcoming Rogues Gallery Spring/Summer 2010 collection up for you viewing pleasure. “I snuck over to the Rogues Gallery NYC showroom the other day to check out the new collection. When everyone wasn’t paying attention I snapped a few shots of the space and the some SS10 goodies. I really liked the washed knits that were on display, note to self buy washed knits when they hit stores. Just being in the showroom makes me feel like I’m in the company’s shop in Portland. The space is really well done, which is not really a surprise considering Rogues founder Alex Carleton’s taste.”

The Story of Preston Tucker

selectism - The Story of Preston Tucker

After WWII, Preston Tucker had a rather impressive goal – break into the Big Three dominated auto market. This attempt was a commercial failure, but lead to some rather innovative cars. Extant Tucker’s often sell at close to $1 million. The story has been told several times, and most famously by Francis Ford Coppola’s 1988 film “Tucker: A Man and His Dream.”

Good stories never die… or so it seems. Recently the Tucker tale has been resurrected, thanks to the discovery of a previously unknown model, the Tucker Convertible. Arguments over the authenticity of the vehicle are raging. Some believe it a secret prototype. In any event, the Convertible has again brought light to a piece of American manufacturing history. Read the full story in today’s NYT.

Band of Outsiders for Sperry Chukka Boot

selectism - band-of-outsiders-sperry-chukka-boot-01

We know we’re partly responsible for the shift in the speed at which fashion works, but it feels like only yesterday we were featuring this shoe at Bread & Butter. Now it’s officially in store and, given the relatively reasonable price, it won’t be there for long.

If you’re the type who likes to be pretentious, you’ll be glad to know that the colour on these are called ‘cracked champagne’. Not grey suede, ‘cracked champagne’. The cost is £181/€213/$306, a pretty reasonable price for Band of Outsiders and you’ll be sure to find a pair that fit, unlike their ridiculously slim fit shirts. (Tres Bien)

K-Swiss for Partners & Spade

selectism - K-Swiss for Partners & Spade

In my tennis days, I cursed those kids with better grades (and USTA rankings) that were gifted with free shoes and garments from K-Swiss. Thoughts relating to the brand go back to this experience, though the tables might turn. K-Swiss wants to dominate ping-pong. In aid of this effort, they’ve teamed with Partners & Spade to produce a special shoe for the latter’s “August Sweatout Ping-Pong Classic.” The event takes place on August 29, and the shoes (a special make up of the classic K-Swiss with a touch of neon) will also go on sale at a few fine retailers. Paul Smith Suede Oxfords

If, like us, you have a growing addiction to shoes, then you’ll need certain pairs for certain occasions. If you’ve got your dancing shoes and your work boots, these Paul Smith shoes are perfect for everyday use. The colour means they’ll go with anything from beige chinos to dark denim to grey trousers. The worn-in suede means you won’t be too worried about being caught in a random downpour – something all of us in England live in constant fear of. And most of all, they’re just great shoes. Nom De Guerre Coated Canvas Duffel Bag

selectism - nom-de-guerre-duffle-bag-01

Nom De Guerre’s AW09 collection has ‘dropped’, as they say, at Oki-Ni. There’s plenty of good pieces but we thought we should bring special attention to this duffel. Duffel bags are starting to feel like heritage brand backstories – everybody’s got one – but the sheer size (it’s huge!) and coated canvas material make it stand out. It’s no good for overseas trips (too big for check-in, not sturdy enough to take a beating in baggage) but it’s great for those extended stays at your girlfriend’s/boyfriend’s house. (Oki-Ni)
