Russell Moccasin Co. “Exotic Shoes”

27 August 2009, 14.23 | Posted in Shoes | No comments »

selectism - Russell Moccasin Co. "Exotic Shoes"

The “exotic shoes” collection from Russell Moccasin Co. is perfect for nights out with ultra-liberal family members. “Kick it up a notch” (their words, not ours) with a Oneida Camp Moccasin crafted from Hippo. Elephant and ostrich are also popular materials in the line. For those that really want to show out, send in your own big game catch – Russell is a custom order company and  encourages customers to supply their own hides. Pick any shoe from the catalog, and they will provide you with trophy worthy footwear.

In all seriousness, the “exotic shoes” are a great reminder of Russell’s heritage as a real hunting outfitter. On a style note, some of these will make you look like an asshole. Then again, if you choose to wear them (for style) that is probably the point.

More “exotic shoes” after the jump.

Factotum Striped Cardigans

selectism - factotum-cardigans

Summer is winding down (in the UK at least) and you know what that means – more knitwear. It’s not like we stopped posting about knitwear all summer (a little sun isn’t gonna stop us from layering) but now we can post it in the knowledge that we’re posting in season stuff now.

We’re somewhat obsessive about our knitwear as they’re perfect layering devices – we like vests, but a cardigan gives off a much more lassez-faire attitude about things. These Factotum cardies work perfectly for a slouchy day and will go with plenty of oufits. In case you’re wondering, we prefer the red. It’s from Japan, so get your proxy on. (Mindtrive)

Soulland ‘Mondrian’ Shirt

selectism - soulland-mondrian-shirt-01

It’s been a bit of Soulland overload here at SL – we just remembered how much we liked them. We’re still recovering from the news that Topman of all places will be stocking their AW09 collection. We’ve gotta give props where it’s due, their own range may be poor quality, but they do know how to pick a good label to team up with.

If, like us, you’ve been looking to break free from the tyranny of checked shirts, this polka dot version will be right up your alley. Subtlety isn’t a word you associate with polka dots, but compared to Comme-style mega dots, these are as subtle as a pair of Church’s brogues. (Goodhood)

Detailed shots are right after that leap.

01. Man in a Van (above)

“Jimmy Tarangelo is an effing badass. He doesn’t like paying rent, but he does like living in Manhattan. So what does he do? He lives in a van down by the river, literally.” (vimeo)

02. An Open Letter to Nicolai Ouroussoff

“I would like to challenge The New York Times’ architecture critic’s assertion in his article of August 24th, 2009 (’As Heroes Disappear, the City Needs More’) that Los Angeles has fostered two generations of architects ‘that has no real equivalent in New York.’ While I agree with Nicolai Ouroussoff’s ultimate conclusion that ‘real change will first demand a radical shift in our cultural priorities’, it would behoove Mr. Ouroussoff, who waxes nostalgically about the 70s-era influence of the ‘New York Five,’ to explore the halls of academia on the eastern seaboard and to grab a Metrocard and visit the architectural studios that are energetically creating new work in our diverse city.” (designobserver)

03. The Mirror’s Online Footy Archive

“For the launch of mirrorfootball.co.uk, which includes an archive of The Mirror’s football photography, Delaney Lund Knox Warren has created a series of 48 sheet posters using some classic images of players from ten UK teams…” (creativereview)

04. Architects’ Book Collections Featured in Unpacking My Library

“Through February 2010, New York’s Urban Center Books is exploring the relationship between architecture and print with Unpacking My Library, an exhibition of the book collections of prominent New York architects such as Steven Holl and Michael Sorkin. In preparing the exhibit, curator Jo Steffens found herself pleasantly surprised by the wide variety of intellectual and artistic influences represented in the collections…” (archdaily)

Selectism - Eraser Brush

This is one of those simple ideas that translates beautifully into an ornamental and functional piece for your workspace. The “Eraser Brush” is a solid piece of woodblock which has a full pencil eraser and hair brush on either end. The look is great. Also, we should note that they’re produced by blind and visually impaired artisans in Berlin. Incredibly economical as well at around 12$US. (likecool)

Selectism - Thorogood for Epaulet Horsehide Work Boot

Epaulet teams with Thorogood boot makers for a special 72 run unit of their Made in the USA workboot. The horse hide workboot is built tough with a brown upper and light colored welt. “Living in Brooklyn, we wanted a work boot that’s a bit more refined than usual and jived with the style of our menswear. Our couse it has to still be long-wearing and tough as hell.” A good look.

Wish You Were Here | London-NYC Shop Swap

Selectism - Wish You Were Here | London-NYC Shop Swap

Wallpaper* reports in regarding an interesting take on pop-up retail with a cross Atlantic swap of sorts. The “Wish You Were Here” Project positions 30 London boutiques into the Lower East Side at 186 Orchard Street. “More than just an excuse for a group jolly, the conglomerate of independent boutiques are engaging in an extended swap shop with counterparts of the Lower East Side shopping district – feeling a symbiotic, albeit transatlantic approach to their brands, both individually and of the two areas as a whole.”
