E. Tautz Bowtie

25 August 2009, 10.30 | Posted in Accessories | No comments »

selectism - e-tautz-bowtie

We’re just gonna come out and say it – we don’t like most of the E. Tautz collection. We’ve felt slightly obliged to like it because Patrick Grant was behind it but look at that sweater. We’re sure it’s made from the finest wool in the world, but the oddly placed logo looks cheap and tacky. We know what they’re going for, but the end result is decidedly Kitsune-lite.

Now we’ve got that outburst off our chests, we can focus on the parts of the collection we do like – like this bowtie. We don’t have much to say about the tie itself, it’s a bow tie – if you like it you wear it. It’s not rocket science. Just be grateful it doesn’t have a ‘kooky’ logo on it. (Matches)

03. House in Minami Boso / Kiyonobu Nakagame & Associates

“Kiyonobu Nakagame & Associates designed a villa on the Boso Peninsula, east of Tokyo.  Even though the residence is less that two hours from the city, the natural setting surrounding the home could not be any more different from the chaotic streets of the downtown Tokyo area.” (archdaily)

04. Home Away Clock by Kit Men

“Kit Men have created a new dual-time alarm clock for Hong Kong manufacturer M.N.S., the Home Away is a dual-time alarm clock that “explores how people’s perception can be diverted into an everyday product”…” (mocoloco)

Selectism - Nepenthes Norwegian Welt Lined Boot

A nice pair of shit kickers from Nepenthes. The Norwegian welt lined boot are built for those Scandinavian winter but the Japanese have no problem choosing the best of the best when it comes to importing their style. Finished in a lovely oiled brown leather. I could use a pair. Available from Museum Ark.

Dunraven’s Sports Hall

selectism - Dunraven's Sports Hall

For much of the late 90s the only time I went to Streatham was for big nights out at Ceasers. Twenty quid all you can drink. There were also free burgers if one was feeling intrepid. Needless to say, not the classiest establishment.

Now, kids in Streatham have something a bit more upmarket to entertain them. Dunraven School’s new sports hall is built from recycled shipping containers follows a few earlier projects, but might be the first project in education utilizing the material. Three sides of the building (designed by Scabal) are made of stacked containers, while the fourth is a polycarbonate. The resulting hall celebrates the school and the material at once. A nice new addition to the area. (via ArchDaily).

Selectism - 1950's Vintage Spring Court Boxes

Just to prove to you that good things rarely change, here’s a look at some deadstock Spring Court tennis trainer boxes from the 1950’s. Not that much different than what we see today except those boxes have gone through some work. Also, note the 3 hole design (after the jump) as opposed to the current 4 hole. We personally prefer the old packaging as well. It shows a period when graphic design was still young. A great look at some of our favorite sneakers as they were back in the day. We have said it before – it’s all about the airsole in the Spring Court trainers.

Selectism - Our Legacy Waxed Parka Jacket

Eugene from HB’s favorite Tres Bien model does the stance in the latest waxed parka jacket from Our Legacy. It is more of a raincoat – long in length with hooded pull and zip closure. “Made in waxed British Millerain cotton, closed with both buttons and zip and features organic white straps to loosen up the look. Straight fit with narrow arms but still, wide enough to fit an unconstructed wool blazer underneath.” Choose between green and navy. We prefer green.
