Esquire | Interview with Awaydays author, Kevin Sampson

selectism - awaydays-interview

Esquire have an interview with Awaydays author, Kevin Sampson. Awaydays is noted for being the most accurate book about the casuals movement and it’s been made into a film that had the misfortune to be lumped in with Nick Love’s The Firm – in comparison The Firm is Rocky whilst Awaydays is Raging Bull. Sampson talks about his film, The Firm and his hate for the term casual, amongst other things. On the term casual he states:

“I have had an almost psychopathic dislike for the term “casual”. It’s just so wrong. In terms of describing a sub-culture that was so devoted to fine detail, it doesn’t work at all. I really don’t know how The Face happened upon such a lazy and slap dash cult phrase for that particular group of people.”
