Selectism - BEAMS Autumn/Winter 2009

ACL gets their hands on the latest catalog of goods from BEAMS for men. “The Beams catalog magically appeared in my office yesterday and I couldn’t help but to scan so you guys can see what the well dressed 2% is up to this fall… Good luck trying to pull off a safari jacket in the United States, but it is fun to look at nonetheless.”

More looks from the BEAMS Autumn/Winter 2009 catalog for men after the jump.

Launching last year, Marc Hare’s ‘Mr. Hare’ range launched to much blog fanfare. His range ‘the purest form’ brought a sensibility that hasn’t been seen in men’s shoes for a long time. With his Spring/Summer 2010 collection showing at London fashion week, we caught up with the shoemaker to have a chat and get some exclusive pictures of his upcoming collection.

Take a leap to see what he looks for in shoes, what song sums up his collection and which Arsenal player he’d have wearing Mr. Hares.

selectism - Calibra Sofa from Bernhardt Design

After meeting at the University of Applied Arts in San Salvador, Claudia and Harry Washington founded their design studio Due in 2004. The scope of their work expanded in 2005, when they both took time to study in Milan. Their return to San Salvador brought expansion to their studio, which now allows product to be produced locally. Both also teach at the University of Applied Arts.

Claudia and Harry’s most recent work for Bernhardt Design, the Calibra Sofa, sits cleanly on polished aluminum legs. The cut angle to the arms provides a distinctive flare to an otherwise straightforward line. The sofa is paired with a love seat. (via Daily Icon).

Denis Guidone for Nava Design

selectism - Denis Guidone for Nava Designs

While personal watch taste stands firmly on the classic (and Swiss), designer watches still command attention. Like the chair, a watch has certain parameters that must be considered. Straps, face, function, etc. Yet, within these requirements there is some wiggle room.

Designer Denis Guidone, known for (yes) his watches, has produced a new series for Italian brand Nava Design. The collection includes four watches, one coming in both white and black, on black bands. Each tells time in its own unique way. For those that like to combine art and time keeping, and perhaps less interested than some in the art of time keeping, some things to look for. (via Dezeen).

selectism - mismo-weekend-sl-01

Mismo have a new addition to the family. As part of their continuing collaboration with Copenhagen retail space Storm fashion, they’ve added this weekend bag to their line up.

Details-wise, the story remains the same; the bag is clean and simple, the trimmings are leather and the canvas is heavy-duty and high quality (they use the same canvas as Hermes and Luis Vuitton). Colours range from blues to a ‘curry’ colour, perfect for those who like to make a stylish statement. Pre-release on Tres Bien,  full release in December.

There’s more shots after the leap.

Paul Smith Card Holder

selectism - paul-smith-card-holder-01

You already know the drill – we like card holders. They’re slick, they’re sleek and they’re perfect for those days when a wallet would overfill your pockets. As for this specific card holder, it’s the usual Paul Smith style – understated, with a splash of colour. We shouldn’t have to say anymore, so we won’t. (Matches)

Wood Wood Laptop Sleeve

selectism - wood-wood-laptop-bag-01

Our crush on Wood Wood continues. This time it’s the laptop sleeve. Sleeves are one of those things that never  crosses someone’s mind until they’re packing – then they’ve got to wrap their laptop in an old t-shirt. We’ve never done this, it’s just an example. As for the sleeve’s specific plus points, it’s got the usuals; soft leather, could do double duty as a document holder, etc, etc.  (Caliroots)

If there’s one thing Caliroots does exceedingly well, it’s take pictures of their products. Take a look at the detailed shots after the leap.

01. Bicycle Diaries: David Byrne Bikes the World’s Cities

For David Byrne they’re much more – they offer a unique opportunity to experience the culture, history, and vitality contained within our built environment. Due for release today, Bicycle Diaries is a freewheeling travelogue that finds Byrne pedaling through the cities of the world as he expounds upon architecture, infrastructure, and life within the world’s great cities.” (inhabitant)

04. Where The Wild Things Are Pop-Up Shop at Space 15 Twenty (above)

“Last Saturday I spent pretty much all day traveling. I got on a plane in Chicago at 1pm and landed in Los Angeles at 8pm. Did that stop me from going to the Where The Wild Things Are pop-up shop at Space 15 Twenty? Nope. This time around they totally tricked out the space, filling ti with all kinds of trees and branches and even made a giant log nest kinda’ thing. Scattered around that were all kinds of Wild Things merchandise like t-shirts with Geoff McFetridege drawings, books, toys and stuffed animals. Max Records, the kid who plays Max in the movie, was even there running around and wearing a big silver crown.” (+kn)

02. Designing Obama

“The Design Director of the Obama campaign, Scott Thomas, has collaborated with artists and designers to create Designing Obama, a chronicle of the art and design from the historic campaign. The 360-page book is full-color and hardbound, highly crafted with an embossed sleeve. Forewords written by Steven Heller and Michael Beirut.”  (cpluv)
