Selectism - Burberry Tailoring for Autumn/Winter 2009

The modern British suit style remains true in the Autumn/Winter 2009 Tailoring from Burberry. “The collection has grown this season to include all key forms of tailoring including evening wear, sports jackets and travel suits with fabrics ranging from Birdseye through to Micro herringbone. All of the Burberry London Tailoring is produced in Italy – yet maintains a classic but modern British style – harnessing cuts similar to those found on Savile Row.”

Selectism - Jack Spade at Apartment Number 9 Pop-Up Shop

Men.style reports in with looks at the new Jack Spade pop-up in Los Angeles which features an interesting crüe of curators. “Despite what they say about all work and no play, Jack—Spade, that is—is no dull boy. The hardworking brand’s latest pop-up is now open in L.A.’s Apartment Number 9, where it is offering a full range of accessories and making the West Coast debut of its first apparel collection. A wide range of contributors and collaborators—from secondhand hounds like Reference Library’s Andy Beach and our buddy (and Spade alum) Mister Mort to comedienne Phyllis Diller—have curated a selection of vintage goods…”

Birds of Sausalito Boxer Shorts

Selectism - Birds of Sausalito Boxer Shorts

We’re lifting our undergarment ban for a moment. Corey from Valet swears by these Band of Sausalito boxers. “After hearing so much about Birds of Sausalito, a luxury mens underwear brand, I decided to try a pair. Right out of the packaging, I noticed they were lighter than your average boxer. And only half the waistband is elasticized, with a tab-front fastened with mother-of-pearl buttons. I thought that pearl buttons and single-needle stitch tailoring were a tad much, but then I pulled on the hand sewn shorts. Cut from Peruvian Pima cotton, the feel is akin to fine hotel bedding.”

Narrative Spring/Summer 2010 Grey Suede Wingcap

selectism - narrative-spring-2010-brogue-preview

With the flurry of tradeshows over and fashion week approaching, the SS10 previews have slowed down a little – which can only be a good thing. We’re sure everyone here has suffered from ‘new collection overload’ – a syndrome we’re coining to describe the gluttony of information that comes during fashion’s busy periods.

So to calm things down a little, we’re taking a ‘one shoe a day’ approach to previewing Narrative’s SS10 collection. Scott notes that these are part of the ‘Shark Zeppa’ group, called so because “the shark sole is the tread and zeppa is the Italian description of a wedge sole without a heel”. Look for these to drop around around January.

selectism - Andy Warhol: The Last Decade

While there are no shortages of opportunity to view Warhol works in public institutions, new exhibitions and the thought that spurs them still generate interest. On September 26, 2009, the Milwaukee Museum of Art opens Andy Warhol: The Last Decade. The exhibition is the first to survey the artists last years, a period of intense activity. Paul Smith Tan Wallet

We know what you’re thinking. We can’t really explain why we’ve fallen in love with wallets either – love’s like that sometimes. This one’s different. It’s not just any old wallet. This one is made from tan leather – like all those shoes we love – and it’ll age like a fine wine. In fact, fine wine wishes it could age as well as this wallet. It’s not cheap, but you knew that when you saw Paul Smith’s name in the title. Just be grateful we’re not recommending a Japanese only wallet that’s only available through a secret handshake with Hiroki Nakumura – we’re saving that for tommorow. (Paul Smith)

Song remains the same, detailed images after that leap.

Denim Demon | Ware Out Project

09 September 2009, 14.01 | Posted in Denim | 1 comment »

selectism - Denim Demon | Ware Out Project

If you remember our feature on Denim Demon, you will recall the origins of the “Ware Out” project. In order to replicate real ware, Denim Demon supplied seven Sami people in Northern Sweden and allowed them to work their magic in a raw pair of jeans. After six months, the results were collected and the basis for the new collection formed.

All the jeans are made in Japan, hand finished, and will be released to select European accounts in editions of 100. The first three “ware outs” are coming this fall. The jeans honor JanAke (above), Per-Henrik, and Per Guttorm. JanAke, for example, wore a huge knife on his left side which accounts for a very specific fade. Additionally he carried a tin of sinus, generating the round fade on the pocket. Each of the jeans will have a custom reindeer hide patch with a portrait of the “ware out” participant (reindeer being another nod to the Sami). If you want to create your own “ware out” the same Japanese milled and constructed denim used for the washes will also be available in raw.

More jeans and the patches after the jump.

The Generic Man Naval White Shoe

selectism - generic-man-naval-white-shoe-01

If we were American, we might pay attention to the ‘no white after labour day’ rule. But we’re not, so we won’t. In fact, we’re just gonna come out and say it – we’re still not sure what Labour day. And no, we’re not bothered enough to google it. Ignorance is bliss.

But back to the case in point. White shoes have gained a fearsomely dandyish repuation that has scared most people off it altogether. If you’re a dandy – great. You’ve probably already got several pairs of white shoes and have ordered this pair without even reading what we’re saying. If not however, then don’t be scared – just think of them as smart white trainers. (Revolve)

More shots of these shoes after the leap.
